Parallelizing Infinite Impulse Response Filters

چکیده
In this paper, we present a parallel algorithm for edge detection based on Infinite Impulse Response filter (IIR filter). In particular, the Infinite size Symmetric Exponential Filter (ISEF) that is an optimal IIR filter and computationally efficient smoothing filter is studied. The proposed algorithm exploits efficiently all aspects of potential parallelism (spatial parallelism, temporal parallelism and systolism) inherent in the studied edge detection algorithms. The designed concurrent algorithm is expressed in terms of a collection of concurrent processes communicating and synchronizing in an efficient way in order to speed up the low-level operations. Key-words: Edge detection, Infinite Impulse Response filter, ISEF filter, Spatial parallelism, Temporal parallelism.

Design of IIR Digital Filter using Modified Chaotic Orthogonal Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (RESEARCH NOTE)
There are two types of digital filters including Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) and Finite Impulse Response (FIR). IIR filters attract more attention as they can decrease the filter order significantly compared to FIR filters. Owing to multi-modal error surface, simple powerful optimization techniques should be utilized in designing IIR digital filters to avoid local minimum. Imperialist compe...

The finite impulse response filters are inherently stable and have linear phase response property. The main drawback of these filters is lies in requirement of higher orders for similar magnitude response compared to Infinite Impulse response filters. Also the amount of computational complexity needed for the implementation of the filter, especially for the filters with narrow transition band i...
متن کاملInfinite-impulse and Finite-impulse Response Filters for Continuous-time Parameter Estimation
This paper examines two classes of algorithms that estimate a continuous time ARX type of models from discrete data: one is based on infinite impulse response (IIR) filters while the other is based on finite impulse response (FIR) filters. The IIR filters use continuous time state variable filters, and discretisation is performed on the filtered derivatives. In contrast, the FIR filters are in ...
متن کاملA Hybrid Infinite/finite Impulse Response (hir) Filter
Filters are used to implement signal transforms, and filter design is a very important part of the signal processing field. There are currently 2 types of filters available: the finite impulse response (FIR) filter, and the infinite impulse response (IIR) filter. While FIR filters have desirable traits such as stability (an absence of poles), IIR filters are able to generate outputs more effici...
متن کاملRoundoff Noise in FIR Digital Filters and in FFT Calculations
FIR (finite impulse response) digital filters are open loop signal processors. These are numerical filters, and roundoff takes place within these filters when certain numerical operations are performed upon the filter input signals. Roundoff also takes place in IIR (infinite impulse response) digital filters. These are feedback filters, and the effects of quantization in IIR filters are more co...
