MatSim: A Matpower and Simulink based tool for Power System Dynamics Course Education

چکیده
Power System Dynamics Course (PSDC) is one of the most important courses in the MSc/M.Tech program of Electrical Engineering at most of the universities worldwide. However, due to the difficulties exist in this course, students are unable to learn the power systems dynamics, properly. This paper introduces a tool based on MATLAB Software that is useful for educating PSDC, effectively. A tool based on Matpower and Simulink (MatSim) has developed in this paper. MatSim utilizes Matpower for power flow studies which is required to calculate steady-state operating points. Also, it uses Simulink to solve the Differential Algebraic Equations (DAEs) of a power system. A single-machine infinite-bus power system, a 3-machine power system, and a 10-machine power system are provided as examples in MatSim. At present in beginning phase, this package is encouraged to be used by most of the students of Lorestan University, Iran and National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (NITR) for completing their PSDC assignments or studies. تحلیل دینامیک مبدل سمت شبکه و طراحی کنترلکنندۀ خازن لینک DC در توربین-ژنراتورهای بادی با ژنراتور القایی دوسو تغذیه (DFIG)
This paper deals with the analysis of the grid side converter (GSC) dynamics and dc-link controller design in doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind turbines. In this way, at first the current controller design for the GSC is proposed, and then power flow direction in rotor-side and grid-side converters at different slips is determined. Next, the dc link dynamics is extracted based on...
متن کاملPractical Case Studies for Undergraduate Process Dynamics and Control Using the Process Control Modules ( PCM )
An effective environment for the incorporation of realistic case studies is introduced for a process dynamics and control course. The Process Control Modules (PCM) can be used in a computer laboratory under MATLAB 5.1 and Simulink 2.1 (Mathworks). Several industrial case studies are reviewed which exemplify the use of such a tool for control education.
متن کاملUtilizing Matpower in Optimal Power Flow
This paper shows how MATPOWER, a MATLAB Power System Simulation Package can be used for optimal power flow (OPF) simulations. MATPOWER is a package of MATLAB files for solving power flow and optimal power flow problems. It is a simulation tool for researchers and educators which is easy to use and modify. An OPF simulation gives the active/reactive power generated and purchased at each bus and ...
متن کاملA New Control Method for Smoothing PMSG-based Offshore Wind Farm Output Power
Nowadays, propagation of wind turbines make challenges to supply safe power to the grid. Because of wind speed changes, supervisors are concerned to wind turbines, be able to produce appropriate electric power during the wind speed changes. As a matter of fact, investors are mostly like to invest on offshore wind farms, because of their more stable and continuous wind speed rather than onshore ...
متن کاملMarket Based Analysis of Natural Gas and Electricity Export via System Dynamics
By increasing the extraction of natural gas, its role in the restructured power systems is being expanded, due to its lower pollution. Iran has the second largest reserves of natural gas in the world and exports it to different countries. This paper represents long run analysis of natural gas export from Iran to Turkey as a case study, considering direct transfer and exporting via the power mar...
