Compressive Behavior of Fiber-Reinforced Honeycomb Cores

چکیده
Honeycomb core sandwich panels have found extensive applications particularly in the aerospace and naval industries. In view of the recent interest in alternative, yet strong and lightweight materials, honeycomb cores are manufactured from sisal fiber-reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites and the out-ofplane compressive behaviour of these cores is investigated. The cell wall material is modeled as a linear elastic, orthotropic plate/lamina and also as a linear elastic, quasi-isotropic material. The failure criteria for the reinforced honeycombs are theoretically developed. Failure maps that can be used for the optimal design of such honeycombs are constructed for a wide range of honeycomb densities. The results indicate a significant improvement in the load carrying capacity of the honeycomb cores after fiber reinforcement.

In this paper we investigate impact and compression after impact properties of plain weave carbon fiber sandwich composites. Impact tests were conducted on different sample types to obtain information about absorbed energy and maximum impact force. The different samples consisted of foam-filled and hollow honeycomb cores with four-layer carbon fiber facesheets on one or both sides. The impact a...

Brittleness, which was the inherent weakness in High Strength Concrete (HSC), can be avoided by reinforcing the concrete with discontinuous fibers. Reinforcing HSC with more than one fiber is advantageous in an overall improvement of the mechanical performance of the composite. In this experimental study, Hybrid Fiber Reinforced High Strength Concrete (HyFR-HSC) mixes were formed by blending si...
