چکیده

This Letter applies the concept of "jets," as constructed from calorimeter cell four-vectors, to jets composed (primarily) of photons (or leptons). Thus jets become a superset of both traditional objects such as QCD jets, photons, and electrons, and more unconventional objects such as photon jets and electron jets, defined as collinear photons and electrons, respectively. Since standard objects such as single photons become a subset of jets in this approach, standard jet substructure techniques are incorporated into the photon finder toolbox. Using a (reasonably) realistic calorimeter model we demonstrate that, for a single photon identification efficiency of 80% or above, the use of jet substructure techniques reduces the number of QCD jets faking photons by factors of 2.5 to 4. Depending on the topology of the photon jets, the substructure variables reduce the number of photon jets faking single photons by factors of 10 to 10(3) at a single photon identification efficiency of 80%.

Radiatively Driven Jets around Black Holes

The hot, puffed up, post-shock region of an advective disc is the source of high energy photons and also the jets and outflows. We study the relativistic equations of motion of jets as these high energy photons interact with them. We show that the much discussed terminal velocity of jets depends on the comparative value of radiative energy density, flux and the radiative pressure. We show that ...

Radiatively driven rotating pair-plasma jets from two component accretion flows

Centrifugal pressure of matter spiralling onto black holes, have long been known to produce standing or oscillating shocks. The post-shock disc puffs up in the form of a torus, which intercepts soft photons from the outer Keplerian disc and inverse Comptonizes them to produce hard photons. The post-shock region also produces jets. We study the interaction of both hard photons and soft photons, ...

Photons, photon jets, and dark photons at 750 GeV and beyond

In new physics searches involving photons at the LHC, one challenge is to distinguish scenarios with isolated photons from models leading to "photon jets". For instance, in the context of the 750 GeV diphoton excess, it was pointed out that a true diphoton resonance [Formula: see text] can be mimicked by a process of the form [Formula: see text], where S is a new scalar with a mass of 750 GeV a...

Radiatively driven electron - positron jets from two component accretion flows

Matter accreting onto black holes has long been known to have standing or oscillating shock waves. The post-shock matter puffs up in the form of a torus, which intercepts soft photons from the outer Keplerian disc and inverse Comptonizes to produce hard photons. The post-shock region also produces jets. We study the interaction of both hard photons and soft photons, with onaxis electron-positro...
