Synchronous Morphologically Distinct Craniopharyngioma and Pituitary Adenoma: A Rare Collision Entity
نویسندگان
چکیده
Simultaneous occurrence of morphological distinct, discreet intracranial tumors sharing the same cell lineage is a rarity. Pituitary tumors and craniopharyngiomas share a common lineage. Simultaneous occurrence of these two tumors in the same patient is rare and has been reported only nine times so far (Table 1). While pituitary tumours are centred in the sella, craniopharyngiomas may occur anywhere from the pituitary gland to the third ventricle. Association of intra-third ventricular craniopharyngioma and growth hormonesecreting pituitary macroadenoma as two distinct, unconnected tumors occurring synchronously has not been reported so far.

Collision tumors of the sella: coexistence of pituitary adenoma and craniopharyngioma in the sellar region
Collision tumors of the sellar region are relatively uncommon and consist mainly of more than one type of pituitary adenoma or a cyst or cystic tumor. The association of a pituitary adenoma and a craniopharyngioma is particularly rare. This study describes a rare occurrence in which a pituitary adenoma and a craniopharyngioma coexisted in the sellar region. The case involves a 47-year-old woman...

IntroductIon Granular cell tumor (GCT) of neurohypophysis was first reported by Boyce and Beadles in 1983.[1] In 2016 WHO classification of central nervous system (CNS) tumors, GCT of neurohypophysis was defined as a distinct diagnosis.[2] Here, we reported two cases of GCT of neurohypophysis misdiagnosed as pituitary adenoma and craniopharyngioma. One of the cases was a very rare fully describ...
متن کاملA Rathke's Cleft Cyst Presenting with Apoplexy
The occurrence of symptomatic pituitary hemorrhage into a Rathke's cleft cyst (RCC) is extremely rare. The author reports an interesting case of intra- and suprasellar RCC presented with features of pituitary apoplexy. This 62-year-old woman suffered acute headache, mental confusion, and partial hypopituitarism. The characteristics of the magnetic resonance imaging seemed most compatible with a...
متن کاملCase Report: Co-Occurrence of Pituitary Adenoma with Suprasellar and Olfactory Groove Meningiomas
Introduction: The co-existence of pituitary adenoma and meningioma is extremely rare. It is even rarer in patients with no previous known risk factors for either tumour. Here, we present a case of synchronous non-functioning pituitary adenoma with suprasellar and olfactory groove meningiomas in a patient without previous irradiation. Methods: The tumours were diagnosed on MRI in the 65-year-ol...
متن کاملCollision tumors composed of meningioma and growth hormone-secreting pituitary adenoma in the sellar region
RATIONALE Collision tumor is a rare disease that represents the coexistence of two histologically distinct neoplasms in the same area without histological admixture or an intermediate cell population zone. To our best knowledge, 13 cases besides our 2 cases have been reported till now, and our report represents the first publication regarding a collision tumor composed of growth hormone (GH)-se...
