چکیده

In general we will be searching for methods of solving problems containing terms where the courant condition is too restrictive for practical computation; typical in this regard is the inclusion of diffusion or thermal conduction which contain second derivatives in space implying that time steps must scale as ∆t ∝ 1/(∆x). In this case we can not solve the problems explicitly but rather solve (at least part of) the problem implicitly to avoid the time step restrictions imposed by the inclusion of these operators. We follow Numerical Recipes and consider an initial value problem of the form

Efficient Numerical Methods for Pricing American Options Under Stochastic Volatility

Five numerical methods for pricing American put options under Heston’s stochastic volatility model are described and compared. The option prices are obtained as the solution of a two-dimensional parabolic partial differential inequality. A finite difference discretization on nonuniform grids leading to linear complementarity problems with M -matrices is proposed. The projected SOR, a projected ...

A Comparison of Parallel Solvers for the Incompressible Navier{Stokes Equations

The paper compares coupled multigrid methods and pressure Schur complement schemes (operator splitting schemes) for the solution of the steady state and time dependent incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. We consider pressure Schur complement schemes with multigrid as well as single grid methods for the solution of the Schur complement problem for the pressure. The numerical tests have been ...

Operator splitting methods for pricing American options under stochastic volatility

We consider the numerical pricing of American options under Heston’s stochastic volatility model. The price is given by a linear complementarity problem with a two-dimensional parabolic partial differential operator. We propose operator splitting methods for performing time stepping after a finite difference space discretization. The idea is to decouple the treatment of the early exercise const...

Efficient Preconditioning of the Linearizednavier - Stokes Equationsdavid

We outline a new class of robust and eecient methods for solving subproblems that arise in the linearization and operator splitting of Navier-Stokes equations. We describe a very general strategy for preconditioning that has two basic building blocks; a multigrid V-cycle for the scalar convection-diiusion operator, and a multigrid V-cycle for a pressure Poisson operator. We present numerical ex...

Operator Splitting Methods for Pricing American Options with Stochastic Volatility

Stochastic volatility models lead to more realistic option prices than the Black-Scholes model which uses a constant volatility. Based on such models a two-dimensional parabolic partial differential equation can derived for option prices. Due to the early exercise possibility of American option contracts the arising pricing problems are free boundary problems. In this paper we consider the nume...

Cosmological Radiation Hydrodynamics with Enzo

We describe an extension of the cosmological hydrodynamics code Enzo to include the self-consistent transport of ionizing radiation modeled in the flux-limited diffusion approximation. A novel feature of our algorithm is a coupled implicit solution of radiation transport, ionization kinetics, and gas photoheating, making the timestepping for this portion of the calculation resolution independen...
