چکیده

Abstract We introduce a stochastic model in which adjacent planar regions A,B merge stochastically at some rate λ(A,B) and observe analogies with the well-studied topics of mean-field coagulation and of bond percolation. Do infinite regions appear in finite time? We give a simple condition on λ for this hegemony property to hold, and another simple condition for it to not hold, but there is a large gap between these conditions, which includes the case λ(A,B) ≡ 1. For this case, a non-rigorous analytic argument and simulations suggest hegemony.

Stochastic analysis of two adjacent structures subjected to structural pounding under earthquake excitation

Seismic pounding occurs as a result of lateral vibration and insufficient separation distance between two adjacent structures during earthquake excitation. This research aims to evaluate the stochastic behavior of adjacent structures with equal heights under earthquake-induced pounding. For this purpose, many stochastic analyses through comprehensive numerical simulations are carried out. About...

Exponential Segregation in a Two-Dimensional Schelling Model with Tolerant Individuals

We prove that the two-dimensional Schelling segregation model yields monochromatic regions of size exponential in the area of individuals’ neighborhoods, provided that the tolerance parameter is a constant strictly less than 1/2 but sufficiently close to it. Our analysis makes use of a connection with the first-passage percolation model from the theory of stochastic processes.

Similarity Based Region Merging Interactive Image Segmentation

Efficient and effective image segmentation is an important task in computer vision and object recognition. Since fully automatic image segmentation is usually very hard for natural images, interactive schemes with a few simple user inputs produce good solutions. This work presents a new region merging based interactive image segmentation method. The users only need to roughly indicate the locat...

Semi-supervised Method of Multiple Object Segmentation with a Region Labeling and Flood Fill

Efficient and efficient multiple object segmentation is an important task in computer vision and object recognition. In this work; we address a method to effectively discover a user’s concept when multiple objects of interest are involved in content based image retrieval. The proposed method incorporate a framework for multiple object retrieval using semi-supervised method of similar region mer...

Persistence in Extended Dynamical Systems

Persistence in spatially extended dynamical systems (like coarsening systems and other nonequilibrium systems) is reviewed. We discuss, in particular , the spatial correlations in the persistent regions and their evolution in time in these systems. We discuss the dependence of the persistence behavior on the dynamics of the system and consider the specific example of different updating rules in...
