چکیده

We obtain an effective string theory of the Abrikosov–Nielsen–Olesen vortices of the Abelian Higgs model. The theory has an anomaly free effective string action which, when expanded in powers of the extrinsic curvature, yields the Nambu–Goto action and a rigidity term which is negative. This generalizes previous work in which a string representation was obtained in the London limit where the magnitude of the Higgs field is fixed. Viewed as a model for long distance QCD, it provides a concrete picture of the QCD string as a fluctuating Abrikosov–Nielsen–Olesen vortex of a dual superconductor on the border between type I and type II. The value, α′ ≈ .9(GeV)−2, for the slope of the ρ trajectory fixes the vacuum expectation value φ0 of the dual Higgs field at φ0 ≈ 210MeV. PACS number(s): 12.40.Nn, 11.27.+d Typeset using REVTEX 1

We find that perturbation theory fails to describe the short range static potential as obtained from quenched lattice simulations, at least for source separations r > (6 GeV)−1. The difference between the nonperturbatively determined potential and perturbation theory at short distance is well parameterised by a linear term with a slope of approximately 1 GeV2, that is significantly bigger than ...

Matrix String Theory of Banks, Fischler, Shenker and Susskind can be understood as a generalized quantum theory (provisionally named " quansical " theory) which differs from Adler's generalized trace quantum dynamics. The effective planar Matrix String Theory Hamiltonian is constructed in a particular fermionic realization of Matrix String Theory treated as an example of " quansical " theory.
