چکیده

We analyze muon decay using the most general local, derivative-free, Lorentz-invariant, leptonnumber-nonconserving interactions. We show that, neglecting neutrino masses, there is a one-toone correspondence between the coupling constants in the lepton-number-conserving case and combinations of coupling constants in the lepton-number-violating case; i.e., it is not possible, even in principle, to test lepton-number conservation in muon decay if the final neutrinos are massless and are not observed. Using these relations, we are able to use previous analyses of (lepton-numberconserving) muon and inverse muon decay to put stringent limits on certain combinations of parameters. If fine-tuned cancellations are not allowed, these limits constrain the individual coupling constants. We discuss to what extent it is directly tested that the (left-handed) neutrino emitted in muon decay is the same as that which is produced in ~„2 decay.

New Constraints On Lepton Nonconserving R-parity Violating Couplings

Strong upper bounds are derived on certain product combinations of lepton nonconserving couplings in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with explicit R-parity violation. The input is information from rare leptonic decays of the long-lived neutral kaon, the muon and the tau as well as from the mixings of neutral Kand B-mesons. One of these bounds is comparable and another superior to corr...

Single chargino production with R - parity lepton number violation in electron - electron and muon - muon collisions

We examine single chargino production in conjunction with R-parity lepton number violation in future lepton-lepton collisions. Present bounds on R-parity violating couplings allow for a production cross section of the order of O(10 fb) for a wide range of sneutrino and chargino masses. Scenarios of chargino decay which lead to purely leptonic signals in the final state and without missing energ...

Leptogenesis from R Parity Nonconservation

It is known that realistic neutrino masses for neutrino oscillations may be obtained from R parity nonconserving supersymmetry. It is also known that such interactions would erase any preexisting lepton or baryon asymmetry of the Universe because of the inevitable intervention of the electroweak sphalerons. We now show how a crucial subset of these R parity nonconserving terms may in fact creat...

Natural suppression of symmetry violation in gauge theories: Muon- and electron-lepton-number nonconservation

We analyze the circumstances under which the violations of an approximate symmetry in a unified gauge theory of weak interactions are naturally suppressed; in particular, we investigate approximate muonand electron-type lepton-number conservation as an example of such a symmetry. Extending earlier work, we propose a unified treatment of this symmetry together with strangeness conservation by th...

Are messages of R-parity violating supersymmetry hidden within top quark signals?

In an R-parity nonconserving supersymmetric theory, the lighter stop can dominantly decay into b&mgr; and btau if R-parity breaking has to explain the neutrino mass and mixing pattern suggested by the data on atmospheric muon neutrinos. This should give rise to dilepton + dijet and single - lepton + jets, signals identical with those of the top quark at the Fermilab Tevatron. One can thus const...
