چکیده
I x A RECENT STUDY of leukemic leukocyt-e extracts, the presence of an agglutinin and hemolysin active against trypsimsized erythrocytes was noted.1 The purpose of this report is to describe additional studies on this hemolysin and agglutinin. These studies have attempted to aisssver the following quest-ions: Is there any relationship between these agglutinins aisd hemolysins and the aist.ibodies responsible for the development of acquired hemolytie anemia?2 Are t hese agglut-inins and hensolysins related to -glucuronidase,3 ant-i-H material,4 01 to lytic material found in tumor tissue?5 During these studies, partial inhibitiois of the hemolytic and agglutinin activity by serum was noted, and an attempt has been made to characterize the meehanisns of inhibition.

Reactions of normal and leukemic cell surfaces to a wheat germ agglutinin.
A variety of differences between normal and leukemic cells have been reported, involving such diverse characteristics as alkaline phosphatase content,"' 12 glycolytic rate, and nucleic acid metabolism.6 In most cases, however, the differences observed could have been due to variations in cell maturation levels rather than to leukemia-specific changes. We still do not know whether leukemia resul...

T HE APPEARANCE of female Philadelphia (Ph’ ) chromosomes in a male patient of blood group 0 who had received a transfusion of leukocyterich plasma from a female of blood group A with chronic myelogenous leukemia ( CML) , made it possible to conduct a study of blood groups during induction, growth and rejection of a hematopoietic graft. The recipient was being treated for acute lymphocytic leuk...

Peanut agglutinin (PNA) binding was studied in cells from 74 children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). PNA positivity occurred in 50% of T-ALL (12 of 24) and was rare in other types of ALL. There was no clear relationship between PNA and initial white blood cell count, French-American-British classification, stage of differentiation of leukemic cells, hand mirror cells, and organomegaly...
متن کاملThe Effect of Heat on Antibodies
It is possible by means of curves to depict graphically the behavior of the various antibodies under various conditions. Logarithmic curves based on the data presented in the tables are submitted in Text-fig. 1. In general it is evident that antibody destruction goes on gradually as the temperature is increased. Thus 65 degrees C. for 20 minutes diminishes the activity of all the antibodies wit...
متن کاملAn Alkaline Phosphatase Lacking Wheat Germ Agglutinin Binding Sites Useful Enzyme for Lectin Assays with Comparable Activity to the Calf Enzyme
Despite the availability of various alkaline phosphatase (ALP) isoenzymes, the calf enzyme is being used in current enzyme assays as the detector enzyme. The glycosylation pattern of this enzyme makes it a suitable ligand for binding to wheat germ agglutinin lectin (WGA). As a result of this property, the enzyme can not be used as a conjugate with this lectin, and the calf enzyme conjugates can...
