An Electronic Market-Maker

چکیده
This paper presents an adaptive learning model for market-making under the reinforcement learning framework. Reinforcement learning is a learning technique in which agents aim to maximize the long-term accumulated rewards. No knowledge of the market environment, such as the order arrival or price process, is assumed. Instead, the agent learns from realtime market experience and develops explicit market-making strategies, achieving multiple objectives including the maximizing of profits and minimization of the bid-ask spread. The simulation results show initial success in bringing learning techniques to building marketmaking algorithms. Market Maker: an Agent-Mediated Marketplace Infrastructure
Market Maker is a tool for creating agent based electronic marketplaces. Market maker supports automated product identification, buyer and seller qualification, and negotiations by software agents to facilitate transactions. The concept of agent based marketplace was first demonstrated through Kasbah, an electronic marketplace developed in the Media Lab's Software Agents group in 1996. Market M...
متن کاملAutomated Market Makers That Enable New Settings: Extending Constant-Utility Cost Functions
Automated market makers are algorithmic agents that provide liquidity in electronic markets. We construct two new automated market makers that each solve an open problem of theoretical and practical interest. First, we formulate a market maker that has bounded loss over separable measure spaces. This opens up an exciting new set of domains for prediction markets, including markets on locations ...
متن کاملThe Role and Significance of the Electronic Market Maker
The significance of the market structure, in particular the role of the market maker, on the overall success of a marketplace is still an unresolved issue. This paper examines market structures with a focus on the role of the market maker to identify the implications for participants of the various structures and mechanisms employed in electronic markets. Market maker strategies are classified ...
متن کاملPricing and Capacity Allocation Strategies of Suppliers in an Electronic Market
We analyze a problem where a market maker on behalf of buyers allocates a given amount of order among N suppliers each with finite capacity. Specifically, we analyze a situation in which suppliers have the option of going to open market and selling their capacity at a market price. However, the supplier will incur search costs. Moreover, the demand for the supplier capacity in the open market i...
متن کاملA A Practical Liquidity-Sensitive Automated Market Maker
Automated market makers are algorithmic agents that enable participation and information elicitation in electronic markets. They have been widely and successfully applied in artificial-money settings, like some Internet prediction markets. Automated market makers from the literature suffer from two problems that contribute to their impracticality and impair their use beyond artificial-money set...
متن کاملA Comparison of Different Automated Market-Maker Strategies
Financial markets such as stock exchanges and electronic prediction markets frequently use the services of an entity called the market-maker to ensure that the market’s traders can make their transactions. Recently, several strategies that can be used by market-makers to control market trading prices have been proposed by various researchers. A detailed comparison of these market maker strategi...
