چکیده

The IEEE 802.11 wireless network uses a hard handoff mechanism and thus makes it hard for higher layer mobility protocols to implement lossless handovers. In this paper we will show that using IEEE 802.11 transmission feedback data, we can optimize our smooth Mobile IP handoff scheme. Key–Words: IEEE 802.11, Mobile IP, fast handovers, crosslayer, smooth handovers

Fast and Efficient IP Handover in IEEE 802.11 Wireless LANs

This paper presents an effective and simple solution to the problem of Layer 3 (L3) handover in IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs (WLANs), so as to extend the IP mobility area of 802.11 wireless Stations (STAs). The IEEE 802.11f Inter-Access Point Protocol (IAPP), handles the Layer 2 (L2) mobility of STAs during L2 (intra-network) handovers, and offers IP connectivity via L2 specific methods. Instead o...

Performance of Handovers between NEMO and Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using Buffering

A MANEMO node is an IP-based mobile node that has interface attachments to both a mobile network, using Network Mobility (NEMO), and a Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET). While communicating with a correspondent node in the Internet, the MANEMO node should use the best possible path. Therefore, as conditions change, a handover between NEMO and MANET is desirable. This paper describes the operation o...

Low-Latency Mobile IP Handover Based on Active-Scan Link Layer Assisted FMIPv6

IEEE 802.11-based wireless local area networks (WLANs) have been set up in many public places in recent years. It provides convenient network connectivity to mobile nodes (MNs) and allows users moving from one wireless network to another. With mobility protocol support, such as Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6), people can roam across wireless IP subnets without loss of network-layer connectivity. However, t...

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

Intelligent Fast Handover Scheme for Mobile IPv6-based Wireless Local Area Networks

IEEE 802.11-based wireless local area networks (WLANs) have experienced rapid growth for some years. Increasingly ubiquitous, they are deployed in hotspots such as airports, campuses, shopping malls, providing Internet access for mobile users. Meanwhile, Internet service providers can be endowed with substantial increased productivity by enabling roaming users to access data in wireless systems...
