چکیده

It is well-known that an impulse-excited, all-pole lter is capable of representing many physical phenomena, including the oscillatory modes of percussion musical instruments like woodblocks, xylophones, or chimes. In contrast to the more common application of all-pole models to speech, however, practical problems arise in music synthesis due to the location of poles very close to the unit circle. The objective of this work was to develop algorithms to nd excitation and lter parameters for synthesis of percussion instrument sounds using only an inexpensive all-pole lter chip (TI TSP50C1x). The paper describes analysis methods for dealing with pole locations near the unit circle, as well as a general method for modeling the transient attack characteristics of a particular sound while independently controlling the amplitudes of each oscillatory mode.

Analysis and resynthesis of musical instrument sounds using energy separation

Energy separation algorithms using Teager's energy operator have been used to analyze modulations in speech resonances, and energy separation in bird song. Here we apply energy separation and the energy operator to the analysis and resynthesis of musical instrument sounds. We show how the energy operator can be used to (a) examine vibrato and tremolo (b) precisely determine frequencies of harmo...

Advantages and Limitations of Simulating Percussion Gestures for Sound Synthesis

The increasing availability of software for creating realtime simulations of musical instrument sounds allows for the design of new visual and sounding media. Nevertheless, from a conceptual and pratical point of view, the question of how these new instruments can be controlled has rarely been addressed in the literature. In this paper, we present a framework for the control of virtual percussi...

An Analysis of Achievement of the Philosophical Sense of “Extension” in Music, with Interpretaion of Ibn-e Sina’s Explanation an Extension

This research can be considered as one of the studies that seek to explore, in an argumentative way, subtle and solid philosophical concepts in the field of art. The paper provides an analysis of the concept of “extension” in music as one of the most thought-provoking philosophical concepts. The analysis is carried out by interpreting Ibn-Sina’s special conception of musical extension to answer...

Gestural Musical Affordances

This paper is a comparative study of gestural interaction with musical sound, designed to gain insight into the notion of musical affordance on interactive music systems. We conducted an interview base user study trialing three accelerometer based devices, an iPhone, a Wii-mote, and an Axivity Wax prototype, with four kinds of musical sound, including percussion, stringed instruments, and voice...

Automatic Segmentation of the Temporal Evolution of Isolated Acoustic Musical Instrument Sounds Using Spectro-temporal Cues

The automatic segmentation of isolated musical instrument sounds according to the temporal evolution is not a trivial task. It requires a model capable of capturing regions such as the attack, decay, sustain and release accurately for many types of instruments with different modes of excitation. The traditional ADSR amplitude envelope model does not apply universally to acoustic musical instrum...
