Gap Opening Transition and Fractal Ground State Phase Diagram in One Dimensional Fermions with Long Range Interaction : Mott Transition as a Quantum Phase Transition of Infinite Order

چکیده
The metal-insulator transition in one dimensional fermionic systems with long-range interaction is investigated. We have focused on an excitation spectrum by the exact diagonalization technique in sectors with different momentum quantum numbers. At rational fillings, we have demonstrated gap opening transitions from the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid to the Mott insulator associated with a discrete symmetry breaking by changing the interaction strength. Finite interaction range is crucial to have the Mott transition at a rational filling away from the half filling. It is consistent with the strong coupling picture where the Mott gap exists at any rational fillings with sufficiently strong interaction. The critical regions as a quantum phase transition are also investigated numerically. Non-analytic behavior of the Mott gap is the characteristic in the weak coupling. It is of the order of the interaction in the strong coupling. It implies that the metal-insulator transition of the model is of the infinite order as a quantum phase transition at zero temperature. Fractal nature of the ground state phase diagram is also revealed.

EFFECT OF THE NEXT-NEAREST NEIGHBOR INTERACTION ON THE ORDER-DISORDER PHASE TRANSITION
In this work, one and two-dimensional lattices are studied theoretically by a statistical mechanical approach. The nearest and next-nearest neighbor interactions are both taken into account, and the approximate thermodynamic properties of the lattices are calculated. The results of our calculations show that: (1) even though the next-nearest neighbor interaction may have an insignificant ef...

In this paper the thermodynamics of thin ferromagnetic lms are studied in the framework of the classical Heisenberg model with uniaxial anisotropy and long{range dipole interaction. The dependence of the order of the reorientation transition in these systems on the number of layers and on the distribution of anisotropies is investigated using both mean eld theory and Monte{Carlo simulations. An extended Dicke model, which includes atom-atom interactions and a driving classical laser field, is established for a Bose-Einstein condensate inside an ultrahigh-finesse optical cavity. A feasible experimental setup with a strong atom-field coupling is proposed, where most parameters are easily controllable and thus the predicted a second-order superradiant-normal phase transition may be de...
متن کاملKosterlitz-Thouless phase transition in the system of one-dimensional strongly interacting fermions
We are presenting the wave function of the ground state for the system of one-dimension interacting fermions . It is shown that this system undergoes phase transition similar to the Kosterlitz-Thouless one independently of the interaction details. In the limit of infinitely strong interaction the phase transition turns into the usual second order phase transition in a chiral phase. The temperat...

We study the superfluid to Mott-insulator transition of bosons in an optical anizotropic lattice by employing the Bose-Hubbard model living on a two-dimensional lattice with anizotropy parameter κ. The compressible superfluid state and incompressible Mott-insulator (MI) lobes are efficiently described analytically, using the quantum U(1) rotor approach. The ground state phase diagram showing th...
