Some Extremal Problems for Edge-Regular Graphs

چکیده
We consider the class ER(n, d, λ) of edge-regular graphs for some n > d > λ, i.e., graphs regular of degree d on n vertices, with each pair of adjacent vertices having λ common neighbors. It has previously been shown that for such graphs with λ > 0 we have n ≥ 3(d − λ) and much has been done to characterize such graphs when equality holds. Here we show that n ≥ 3(d − λ) + 1 if λ > 0 and d is odd and contribute to the characterization of the graphs in ER(n, d, λ), λ > 0, n = 3(d−λ)+1 by proving some lemmas about the structure of such graphs, and by classifying such graphs that satisfy a strong additional requirement, that the number t = t(u, v) of edges in the subgraph induced by the λ common neighbors of any two adjacent vertices u and v is positive, and independent of u and v. The result is that there are exactly 4 such graphs: K4 and 3 strongly regular graphs.

CERTAIN TYPES OF EDGE m-POLAR FUZZY GRAPHS
In this research paper, we present a novel frame work for handling $m$-polar information by combining the theory of $m-$polar fuzzy sets with graphs. We introduce certain types of edge regular $m-$polar fuzzy graphs and edge irregular $m-$polar fuzzy graphs. We describe some useful properties of edge regular, strongly edge irregular and strongly edge totally irregular $m-$polar fuzzy graphs. W...
متن کاملNew Examples of Graphs without Small Cycles and of Large Size
For any prime power q ≥ 3, we consider two infinite series of bipartite q–regular edge–transitive graphs of orders 2q and 2q which are induced subgraphs of regular generalized 4–gon and 6–gon, respectively. We compare these two series with two families of graphs,H3(p) andH5(p), p is a prime, constructed recently by Wenger ([26]), which are new examples of extremal graphs without 6– and 10–cycle...
متن کاملExtremal Regular Graphs: Independent Sets and Graph Homomorphisms
This survey concerns regular graphs that are extremal with respect to the number of independent sets, and more generally, graph homomorphisms. The main motivating problem is the following: in the family of d-regular graphs, which graph G maximize/minimize the quantity i(G), the number of independent sets in G normalized exponentially by the size of G? What if i(G) is replaced by some other grap...
متن کاملOn the Minimum Number of Spanning Trees in k-Edge-Connected Graphs
We show that a k-edge-connected graph on n vertices has at least n(k/2)n−1 spanning trees. This bound is tight if k is even and the extremal graph is the n-cycle with edge-multiplicities k/2. For k odd, however, there is a lower bound cn−1 k where ck > k/2. Specifically, c3 > 1.77 and c5 > 2.75. Not surprisingly, c3 is smaller than the corresponding number for 4-edge-connected graphs. Examples ...
متن کاملVariational Principle in Discrete Extremal Problems
The paper is devoted to a new approach for solution of some discrete extremal problems, such as the edge isoperimetric problem for graphs, the bisection width problem, the shadow and boundary minimization problems and others, on the carte-sian product of graphs and posets. The main aspect of the approach is in nding of some equivalence relations between the functions in the named problems via r...
