Femoral artery embolization of a thoracic stray bullet

چکیده
Arterial bullet embolization after a thoracic gunshot wound represents a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. The absence of an apparent exit wound should alert the clinician. Cardiac bullet injuries are mostly fatal. However, in some cases, patients may remain stable, and conservative management can be an acceptable strategy. We present a case report of a 7.62- × 39-mm thoracic stray bullet that embolized to the femoral artery.

Penetrating Trans-Thoracic Aortic Injury with Right Femoral Artery Bullet Embolus
We are describing a penetrating thoracic aortic injury and a bullet embolus into common femoral artery with unique therapeutic endovascular approach through the same artery. The patient survived due to the prompt diagnosis and treatment by a multi-disciplinary team, specialized to effectively treat such an injury with advanced techniques.

A 61-year-old man was referred to us for massive left haemothorax (Fig. 1) following a penetrating thoracic gunshot wound. The entrance wound was between the scapula and the spine; no exit wound was evident. Left coxofemoral X-ray demonstrated the presence of the retained bullet in the left femoral region (Fig. 2). An emergency left thoracotomy was performed and a small regular round laceration...
متن کاملBullet embolism to the pulmonary artery.
Bullet embolization of the pulmonary artery is a very rare event. When a bullet enters the pulmonary vasculature, it may cause haemorrhage, thrombosis, sepsis, intimal erosion and eventually occlusion. Locating the bullet with several imaging methods is important to confirm the diagnosis. If due care is taken, the appropriate surgical technique for removing the bullet embolus will be uncomplica...

Introduction: To assess the efficacy and safety of bronchial artery embolization in the treatment of massive hemoptysis. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study on 46 patients (26 males and 20 females) who were referred to the Razavi Hospital from April 2009 to May 2012 with massive hemoptysis and had bronchial artery embolization procedures. General characteristics of the patients inc...
متن کاملGunshot Wound of the Thoracic Aorta with Right Popliteal Artery Embolization: A Case Report of Bullet Embolism with Review of Relevant Literature
Bullet embolism is a well-known but relatively uncommon complication of gunshot injuries. Their rarity and the potential lack of early symptoms lead to delays in diagnosis and often in inadequate early management that can potentially result in the loss of a limb or life. We present an interesting case in which a small caliber bullet to the upper anterior abdomen penetrated the thoracic aorta an...
