چکیده

Despite the existence of several antenna concepts for the SKA much of the instrument’s top-level design can be described in terms that are common to all concepts. This is not surprising of course since a great deal of the design process centres on transporting and processing common information volumes and rates derived from prescribed fields-of-view, observing bandwidths etc. In this short paper we outline a first attempt at a top-level description, and at estimating the basic performance and cost of putative arrays. The first version of the estimation tool is directed mainly at engineers but as the package is refined the tools should prove useful to a wider group. Most importantly, the system definition process has already provided a framework for continuing system design and development, principally via task forces within the SKA International Engineering Working Group.

Memo 99 Aperture Array Cooling Simulation and Costing Model

Executive Summary In this report we show that a distributed cooling system delivering liquid coolant to all the front-end LNAs of an SKA mid-frequency aperture array station is not only practicable but can also be implemented in an economically beneficial way. The aperture array configuration can be adjusted to either deliver an overall cost saving or conversely produce a sensitivity improvemen...

EVLA Memo: #139 Plan for Imaging Algorithm Research and Development

Many scientific deliverables of the next generation radio telescopes require widefield imaging or high dynamic range imaging, or both. Some next generation telescopes nearing completion (EVLA and ALMA) indeed promise at least a ten-fold increase in the sensitivity compared to the existing telescopes. High imaging dynamic range requires removal of systematic errors to high accuracy and for long ...

Applying activity-based costing to determine the final costs of radiology services in Shiraz, Iran: a concurrent equations approach

The Activity-Based Costing (ABC) method possesses the capability to identify the costs accurately and provide non-financial information for improving system function and increasing its efficiency. The present study aimed to calculate the final costs of radiology services to determine the final costs deviation from the enacted tariffs. This study was a retrospective cross-sectional analysis of r...
