چکیده
The novel hydroquinone, (E)-2-(4-hydroxy-3-methyl-2-butenyl)-hydroquinone, and known compound, polyporenic acid C, were isolated as matrix metallo-proteinase inhibitors from the mushroom, Piptoporus betulinus.

Cultivation and utility of Piptoporus betulinus fruiting bodies as a source of anticancer agents
Piptoporus betulinus is a wood-rotting basidiomycete used in medicine and biotechnology. However, to date, no indoor method for cultivation of this mushroom fruiting bodies has been developed. Here we present the first report of successful production of P. betulinus mature fruiting bodies in artificial conditions. Four P. betulinus strains were isolated from natural habitats and their mycelia w...
متن کاملFomitopsis betulina (formerly Piptoporus betulinus): the Iceman’s polypore fungus with modern biotechnological potential
Higher Basidiomycota have been used in natural medicine throughout the world for centuries. One of such fungi is Fomitopsis betulina (formerly Piptoporus betulinus), which causes brown rot of birch wood. Annual white to brownish fruiting bodies of the species can be found on trees in the northern hemisphere but F. betulina can also be cultured as a mycelium and fruiting body. The fungus has a l...

Background and Aim: In spite of the achievements in the field of dental adhesives, we are facing challenges with dentine bonding resistance, strength and stability. According to recent studies the role of MMP inhibitors in association with bonding,s persistence and leakage reduction and restoration,s persistence is important. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of doxycycline as...
متن کاملTotal Phenolic Analysis, Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Activity of Some Mushroom Tinctures from Medicinal and Edible Species, by in Vitro and in Vivo Tests
Wild mushrooms are commonly used in various pathologies. However, there are few studies concerning species characteristics from different geographical areas. The aim of the study was to determine the antioxidant and antimicrobial effects of 17 triple tinctures prepared from 9 species of mushrooms with medicinal potential, harvested from the region of Moldova, Romania. The study was conducted in...
متن کاملDegradation of cellulose and hemicelluloses by the brown rot fungus Piptoporus betulinus--production of extracellular enzymes and characterization of the major cellulases.
Piptoporus betulinus is a common wood-rotting fungus parasitic for birch (Betula species). It is able to cause fast mass loss of birch wood or other lignocellulose substrates. When grown on wheat straw, P. betulinus caused 65% loss of dry mass within 98 days, and it produced endo-1,4-beta-glucanase (EG), endo-1,4-beta-xylanase, endo-1,4-beta-mannanase, 1,4-beta-glucosidase (BG), 1,4-beta-xylosi...
