Treatment of Oil Refinery Wastewater Using Pilot Scale Fed Batch Reactor Followed by Coagulation and Sand Filtration
نویسندگان
چکیده
The current study evaluates the performance of a pilot scale fed batch reactor (FBR), fo llowed by coagulation and sand filtration, for the treatment of an oil refinery wastewater. The total reductions in COD, BOD, oil contents and phenol were 95.11%, 94.30%, 99.47% and 100%, respectively, with FBR followed by coagulation and sand filtration. This FBR-coagulation-sand filtration treatment system also removed the toxicity from the oil refinery wastewater. Treated wastewater by this approach meets National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS) of Pakistan, and can be safely released into the environment.

Background: Olive oil extraction in the world is considered an important economic activity . Environmental impacts of olive oil wastewater is related to the chemical contents and organic materials load that are resistant to biodegradation. Olive wastewater due to phenolic compounds, inhibitors, toxicity to microorganisms in municipal wastewater treatment units, unpleasant odor, high COD, high...

Background & objectives: Anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) is one of the low cost wastewater treatment systems compared to the aerobic method. Hoverer it should be studied and developed to overcome its limitations such as insufficient nutrient removal. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of the 5 sectional ABR pilot and improve it with integrated electric coagulation process for ...
متن کاملElectricity Generation and Wastewater Treatment of Oil Refinery in Microbial Fuel Cells Using Pseudomonas putida
Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) represent a novel platform for treating wastewater and at the same time generating electricity. Using Pseudomonas putida (BCRC 1059), a wild-type bacterium, we demonstrated that the refinery wastewater could be treated and also generate electric current in an air-cathode chamber over four-batch cycles for 63 cumulative days. Our study indicated that the oil refinery ...
