چکیده

Operator perception could be improved by upgrading force feedback devices and adding more senses, such as audio and/or visual. This work is focused on multi-sensorial feedback such as vision, sound, and haptic. The main objective is to determine the most suitable manner to show proper information from the remote environment using devices with a bandwith lower than 30 Hz. The advantage of this device is its cost and simplicity. However, this constraint implies only to perceive contact forces. Information such as texture can not be displayed. This paper describes the results of an experiment about force feedback on telerobotics. The study concentrates on the evaluation of force perception affecting our senses such as haptic, audio and visual.

Improving Perception in Time-delayed Telerobotics

Telerobotics has long struggled to provide realistic force feedback to a user, especially across substantial time delays. Wave variable based controllers provide stable force reflection at frequencies up to a few hertz for typical communication delays; however, the bandwidth of human perception extends to a thousand hertz. In this paper we aim to improve the user’s perception by constructing a ...

Position/force Control of Systems Subjected to Communicaton Delays and Interruptions in Bilateral Teleoperation

Teleoperation technology allows to remotely operate robotic (slave) systems located in hazardous, risky and distant environments. The human operator sends commands through the controller (master) system to execute the tasks from a distance. The operator is provided with necessary (visual, audio or haptic) feedback to accomplish the mission remotely. In bilateral teleoperation, continuous feedba...

Controlling a Passive Haptic Master During Teleoperation

The primary goal of the research proposed here is to develop a control scheme for passive haptic devices used as a master device during teleoperation. Haptic, or force-feedback devices can be divided into two groups based on the energetic nature of their actuators, either passive or active. The research here studies the passive devices, more specifically dissipative passive devices that use bra...

A User Study of a Mobile Robot Teleoperation

In this paper several interfaces for teleoperation of a mobile robot are described and analyzed. We consider teleoperation of a wheeled mobile robot when control commands are given by human operator through a haptic master device. Described human-robot teleoperation interfaces were tested by performing experiments. Main objective was to verify the role of different types of feedback information...

Sensory subtraction via cutaneous feedback: a novel technique to improve the transparency of robotic surgery

In this paper we present a novel technique to force feedback in robot-assisted surgery. It consists of substituting haptic force, composed by kinesthetic and cutaneous components, with cutaneous stimuli only. The force generated can be thus thought as a subtraction between the complete haptic interaction, cutaneous and kinesthetic, and the kinesthetic part of it. For this reason, we refer to th...
