Osa Estimation by Analysis of Nocturnal Snoring Signals in Adults

چکیده
1299 Analysis of Nocturnal Snoring Signal—Ben-Israel et al INTRODUCTION Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a chronic disorder affecting 2% to 7% of adults and can lead to considerable morbidity.1 Partial or complete collapse of the upper airway during sleep has different effects on the human body, ranging from noisy breathing (simple snoring)2 to cardiovascular morbidity.3 Snoring is the most common symptom of OSA, occurring in 70% to 95% of patients.4 The estimated prevalence of self-reported snoring in the general population extended over a wide range from 16% to 89%5-8; this prevalence depends on awareness, age, culture, and biased bed partner complaints.4,9,10 Nevertheless, self-reported snoring is considered a poor predictor of OSA because of the great prevalence of snoring in the general population.4,11,12 Little is known about acoustic characteristics of snoring events in adults. Earlier studies investigated snoring sound intensity,13 spectral,14-16 and pitch-related17,18 features. Fiz et al.19 used computerized snore detection algorithm enabling full-night analysis. The majority of those studies focused on intra-snore properties by analyzing snore-by-snore events. It is possible that OSA ESTIMATION BY ANALYSIS OF NOCTURNAL SNORING SIGNALS IN ADULTS

Sleep Architecture in Patients With Primary Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Introduction: This study aimed to investigate sleep architecture in patients with primary snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Methods: In this study, we analyzed polysomnographic data of 391 clients who referred to Sleep Disorders Research Center (SDRS). These people were classified into three groups based on their Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) and snoring; control, Primary Snoring (PS), and Obs...
متن کاملReplicability of Psychometric Differences Between Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Primary Snoring, And Periodic Limb Movement Disorder
A lthough several studies document psychological disturbance in various sleep disorders, most existing work concerns insomnia, probably because psychological deviations are presumed to have no particular etiologic role in disorders such as periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD) or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) syndrome. For example, although psychopathology has been widely documented in OSA (1-...
متن کاملThe surgical treatment of sleep-related upper airway obstruction.
BACKGROUND Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a very common disorder among adults: the prevalence of mild OSA is 20%, and that of moderate or severe OSA is 6% to 7%. Simple snoring is even more common. Conservative treatments such as nocturnal ventilation therapy and oral appliances are successful as long as the patient actually uses them, but they do not eliminate the underlying obstruction of t...
متن کاملPitch-jitter Analysis of Snoring Sounds for the Diagnosis of Sleep Apnea
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a disease in which airways involuntarily collapse during sleep, leading to serious consequences. About 10% of snorers suffer from OSA, unknown to them, nevertheless requiring medical attention. The current standard of diagnosis for OSA, polysomnography (PSG), requires that the patients spend one full day in a hospital, wired to a multitude of instruments. PSG is...
متن کاملSpectral Envelope Analysis of Snoring Signals in Simple Snorers and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (osa) Patients
In recent years, several studies have shown the relationship between snoring and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Instead of time domain analysis of snoring signal, the spectral features and shapes of snores have been found different in simple snorers and OSAS patients. In this study, we propose a method to differentiate simple snorers and OSAS patients based on spectral envelope estima...
