Nutrition of the Parasitic Phase of Coccidioides Immitis in a Chemically Defined Liquid Medium.

چکیده
In previous reports (Converse, 1955, 1956, 1957) a chemically defined medium was described which supported the growth of the parasitic phase (spherule) of the dimorphic fungus Coccidioides immitis. Certain physicochemical factors were shown to influence the growth of spherules in this medium. The work to be described here is an extension of the investigation of the nutritional and environmental factors which affect the spherulation in vitro of C. tmmitis.

Effect of surface active agents on endosporulation of Coccidioides immitis in a chemically defined medium.
The chief obstacles to the study of the parasitic or in vivo form (spherule) of Coccidioides immitis grown in synthetic media have been: (1) separating spherules from hyphae, (2) obtaining rupture of the majority of the spherules, and (3) failure of the endospores to separate from the spherule matrix. Growth of spherules in a chemically defined liquid medium composed of glucose, ammo(liberated ...
متن کاملEffect of physico-chemical environment of spherulation of Coccidioides immitis in a chemically defined medium.
Coccidioides immitis undergoes a completely different type of growth in vivo from that in vitro. The parasitic form, or spherule, appears in animal tissue as a non-budding, spherical structure 20 to 80 ,u in diameter with a thick, refractile, double wall, and is filled witlh numerous small endospores 2 to 5 ,u in diameter. The saprophytic form appears in laboratory media as mycelium with branch...
متن کاملNutritional requirements for the growth and arthrospore formation of Coccidioides immitis.
Coccidioides immitis, a dimorphic pathogenic fungus, when grown in vitro on solid or in liquid media, usually forms mycelium with septate hyphae which, upon continued incubation, fragment into numerous arthrospores approximately 2 to 4 A in diameter. No definitive studies on the production of arthrospores in chemically defined liquid media have appeared since the work of Roessler et al. (1946),...
متن کاملComparative Transcriptomics of the Saprobic and Parasitic Growth Phases in Coccidioides spp
Coccidioides immitis and C. posadasii, the causative agents of coccidioidomycosis, are dimorphic fungal pathogens, which grow as hyphae in the saprobic phase in the environment and as spherules in the parasitic phase in the mammalian host. In this study, we use comparative transcriptomics to identify gene expression differences between the saprobic and parasitic growth phases. We prepared Illum...
