Comparison of a novel free breathing SSFP sequence with standard breath held SSFP- a pilot study

چکیده
Background Despite advances in magnetic resonance imaging hardware and software, the acquisition of optimal cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) images may be hampered by several factors. Most notably, scan length, the requirement for multiple breath holds and cardiac gating can all impact upon image quality. Real time cardiac imaging holds promise for reducing scan times via rapid acquisitions of images that are not reliant on breath holding or cardiac gating. Recently, a novel free breathing SSFP sequence was made available as part of a pre-release version of the HeartVista Cardiac Package, Version 1.0.0 (HeartVista, Inc.). Our goal was to compare the assessment of LV function between the HeartVista free breathing SSFP (FB-SSFP) sequence and standard FIESTA breath held SSFP.

Comparison of breath hold and free breathing respiratory triggered retrospectively cardiac gated cine steady-state free precession (RT-SSFP) imaging in adults
Background The cine steady-state free-precession (SSFP) is the standard sequence for left ventricular (LV) function evaluation. However, SSFP mandates uninterrupted RF excitations to maintain steady-state (SS) during suspended respiration. In patients who cannot perform breath-holds (BH), a respiratory triggered (RT) free breathing (FB) retrospectively cardiac gated cine SSFP sequence that driv...
متن کاملImproved workflow for quantification of left ventricular volumes and mass using free-breathing motion corrected cine imaging.
BACKGROUND Traditional cine imaging for cardiac functional assessment requires breath-holding, which can be problematic in some situations. Free-breathing techniques have relied on multiple averages or real-time imaging, producing images that can be spatially and/or temporally blurred. To overcome this, methods have been developed to acquire real-time images over multiple cardiac cycles, which ...
متن کاملComparison of image quality and acquistion time of Free-Breathing (FB) motion corrected (MOCO) SSFP to current PSIR sequences: is one sequence superior?
Background Delayed myocardial enhancement (DE) sequences have become essential in cardiac MRI (CMRI) for visualization of abnormal myocardium. DE sequences require an inversion pulse to null normal myocardium, and the introduction of phase-sensitive inversion recovery (PSIR) sequences, which are less sensitive to small variations in inversion time (TI), have provided a suitable alternative to m...
متن کاملTwo-center clinical validation of free breathing respiratory triggered retrospectively cardiac gated steady-state free precession (RT-SSFP) cine imaging in adults
Background Notwithstanding all the advantages of the cine bSSFP there are certain limitations, especially in sedated patients, patients with impaired breath-holding capacity, and those with cardiac arrhythmias. Any respiratory motion due to unsteady breath-hold during data acquisition causes motion artifacts, sacrificing endocardial border definition. In this study we clinically validate a RT-S...
متن کاملFree-breathing renal MR angiography with steady-state free-precession (SSFP) and slab-selective spin inversion: initial results.
BACKGROUND The aim of our study was the investigation of a novel navigator-gated three-dimensional (3D) steady-state free-precession (SSFP) sequence for free-breathing renal magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) without contrast medium, and to examine the advantage of an additional inversion prepulse for improved contrast. METHODS Eight healthy volunteers (mean age 29 years) and eight patients...
