Geochemical variability of copper and iron in Oman Margin sediments
نویسنده
چکیده
An analysis of the geochemical distribution of selected trace metals among various geochemical phases of the sediments in the Oman Margin was carried out using a sequential extraction technique. The present study showed that most Cu in abyssal sediment is associated with only oxidisable mainly organic and sulphide bound metals with insignificant bound to exchangeable, carbonates, easily/moderately reducible fraction. The preservation of Cu in the sediments indicates the importance of primary production and upwelling in the overlying waters and an organic flux in the sedimentary deposition of open-ocean environments. The early diagenetically formed oxidisable mainly organic and sulphide fraction are not degraded and results in a pronounced association of Cu with organic fraction in the sediments of the Oman continental margin. The strong correlation between Cu, TOC and Fe oxides associated with the oxidisable fraction in one of the core indicates that it is likely to be the presence of sulphides.

Environmental qualitative assessment of rivers sediments
In this study, the concentrations of heavy metals (Ca, Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni) in thesediment of Shavoor River in Khuzestan Province in Iran has been investigated. After the library studies and field studies, six samples of water and sediment were taken from the river in order to evaluate heavy metal pollution in sediments. To determine the geochemical phases of metals in sediment samples the 5-ste...

Levels of the heavy metals Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Chromium (Cr), Nickel (Ni), Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) were determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometer (Model 67OG) in coastal water, sediments and soft tissues of the Saccostrea cucullata, from the intertidal zone at five stations in the Gulf of Chabahar on the Iranian coasts along the Oman Se...
متن کاملGeochemical assessment and pollution of heavy elements in the Revenj River sediments in the northwest of Torbat-e-Jam
In this study, the pollution of the Revenj River sediments with heavy elements has been studied. Revenj River catchment with an area of 131 Km2 is located 20 kilometers from the city of Torbat-e-Jam (northeast of Iran). To investigate the contamination of sediments with heavy elements, 15 samples of sediments were taken from the area and analyzed by ICP-MS. In order to monitor the contamina...

متن کاملOrigin and study of geochemical properties of detrital sediments in southwestern Iran
The origin and geochemistry of the sediments that make up the Khuzestan plain as one of the key areas of southwestern Iran has always been discussed. Detailed geochemical studies of these sediments, in addition to determining their origin, can provide appropriate information about weathering, erosion, ancient tectonics and environmental pollution in the Khuzestan plain. In this research, after ...
