چکیده

The recent development of novel model systems for the early steps of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has rapidly advanced our knowledge of antibody-mediated virus neutralization in patients with acute and chronic hepatitis C. This review summarizes our current understanding of host neutralizing responses during the course of HCV infection. It focuses on recent studies in HCV-infected patients investigating the role of antibody responses for viral clearance as well as the mechanisms of viral escape from virus neutralizing antibodies during progression into chronic infection. Moreover, the potential impact of virus neutralizing antibodies for the development of novel preventive and therapeutic antiviral strategies is discussed. MESH

Neutralizing Antibodies and Pathogenesis of Hepatitis C Virus Infection

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. The interplay between the virus and host innate and adaptive immune responses determines the outcome of infection. There is increasing evidence that host neutralizing responses play a relevant role in the resulting pathogenesis. Furthermore, viral evasion from host neutralizing antibodies has been revealed to...

Human T Lymphotropic Virus Type I (HTLV-I) Oncogenesis: Molecular Aspects of Virus and Host Interactions in Pathogenesis of Adult T cell Leukemia/Lymphoma (ATL)

The study of tumor viruses paves the way for understanding the mechanisms of virus pathogenesis, including those involved in establishing infection and dissemination in the host tumor affecting immune-compromised patients. The processes ranging from viral infection to progressing malignancy are slow and usually insufficient for establishment of transformed cells that develop cancer in only ...

Mutations that alter use of hepatitis C virus cell entry factors mediate escape from neutralizing antibodies.

BACKGROUND & AIMS The development of vaccines and other strategies to prevent hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is limited by rapid viral evasion. HCV entry is the first step of infection; this process involves several viral and host factors and is targeted by host-neutralizing responses. Although the roles of host factors in HCV entry have been well characterized, their involvement in evasion ...

Development of Preventive Vaccines for Hepatitis C Virus E1/E2 Protein

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is responsible for a vast majority of liver failure cases. HCV is a kind of blood disease appraised to chronically infect 3% of the worlds’ population causing significant morbidity and mortality. Therefore, a complete knowledge of humoral responses against HCV, resulting antibodies, and virus-receptor and virus-antibody interactions, are essential to design a vaccine. HC...
