چکیده

Concentrations of Hg, total organic carbon (TOC), Al, Fe and Mn were determined in sediment of the Amba Estuary between the mouth and the head over a distance of 24 km in December and May during 1997-2002. Temporal and spatial changes in metal concentrations appear to be due to sediment movement associated with tidal movements. The Hg concentration varies in 0.05 -2.66 μg g range and the profiles of its variation indicate Patalganga River that opens in the Amba Estuary is a major source of anthropogenic metal to the estuary. Geoaccumulation index and enrichment factor support Hg contamination of the estuarine sediment to a varying degree. Hg is not significantly correlated with TOC, Al, Fe and Mn in these sediments.

Anthropogenicimpacts on heavy metals (Pb, Ni, Zn and Fe) concentration in surface sediments of Shoor River Estuary, Bandar Abbas

Toxicity of trace metals in the environment, bioaccumulation in aquatic environments and in food chains are of great importance. This study concentrates on the distribution patterns of some heavy metals (Pb, Ni, Zn and Fe) in surface sediments of Shoor River estuary to obtain an overall classification for the origins of the metals in the studied area. In order to determine the degree of Contamin...

Environmental controls on the speciation and distribution of mercury in surface sediments of a tropical estuary, India.

Distribution and speciation of mercury (Hg) in the sediments from a tropical estuary (Godavari estuary) was influenced by the changing physico-chemical parameters of the overlying water column. The sediments from the upstream and downstream of the estuary were uncontaminated but the sediments from the middle of the estuary were contaminated by Hg. The concentrations of Hg became considerably le...

Natural heavy metal and metalloid concentrations in sediments of the Minho River estuary (Portugal): baseline values for environmental studies.

Forty-nine surface sediment samples from the Minho estuary sector between Tui and Caminha were analyzed for grain-size contents, Al, As, Cr, Cu, Hg, Li, Pb, Sn, and Zn concentrations. Selected heavy metal (Cu, Cr, Hg, and Zn) and metalloid (As and Sn) distributions were normalized against Al and Li with the main goal of compensating for natural grain-size variability and to separate natural fro...

Distributions, Sources and Contamination Assessment of Some Heavy Metals in Intertidal Surface Sediments of Khor-e-Yekshabeh Mangrove Estuary in Persian Gulf

The water quality of the Persian Gulf is influenced by various industrial and urban discharges. The study area is a small linked estuary with the Straits of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf. This study was conducted to evaluate anthropogenic assessment, pollution status and potential ecological risk of some heavy metals (Pb,Ni, Zn, and Fe) in intertidal surface sediments of a mangrove estua...

Risk assessment of mercury contamination in surface sediment of tidal zone in coastal line of Hormozgan province

Mercury (T-Hg), as the most toxic Trace metal, can have adverse effects on the environment. In this study, the concentrations of T-Hg were investigated in surface sediments of higher and lower tidal zones of Hormozgan province coasts including the stations of Shahr Jask, Ariyan International Wetland Lagoon, Khorgorsuzan Bandar Abbas, Bostono Industrial Zone, Coastal Park of Khumir, Shahrbonderl...
