Measurement of the Instrument Function of a Spectrometer

چکیده

Instrument function is a measure of the intensity distribution in the output plane of a spectroscopic system assuming the input to be an ideal sharp isolated spectral line [1]. It is very essential to know, apart from the resolution limit of the spectrometer also the complete instrument function for the measurement of the exact line profile of spectral sources. The resolution properties of a spectral device can be completely determined considering a perfect monochromatic line representation. The instrument function of a spectrometer is defined by its response a(v-v') to a perfectly monochromatic spectral line represented by the Dirac function 5(v-v'). For an apparatus illuminated by a spectral line of spectral energy distribution S(v) (the source function), the spectral energy distribution recorded, s(v) is a convolution of the source function by the instrument function i.e.,

Design, Construction and Calibration of a Laser Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer

A time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOF-MS) developed in our laboratory at Isfahan University of Technology is described here. The TOF-MS instrument uses laser as the ionization source which provides an opportunity to investigate the ions formed in laser ablation or desorption. The TOF-MS has an ionization chamber containing an accelerator and an ion lens to focus the ions into a one meter line...

Balloon-borne tunable diode laser absorption spectrometer

A balloon-borne tunable diode laser absorption spectrometer capable of in situ measurement of the concentrations of several stratospheric trace gases simultaneously in the same parcel of air is described. Laboratory tests show present detection limits of 1.5 ppbv for NO and 0.5 ppbv for N02 under stratospheric conditions. This instrumentwas flown in July 1983 to make the first tunable diode las...

Aerosol quantification with the Aerodyne Aerosol Mass Spectrometer: detection limits and ionizer background effects

Systematic laboratory experiments were performed to investigate quantification of various species with two versions of the Aerodyne Aerosol Mass Spectrometer, a Quadrupole Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (Q-AMS) and a compact Time-of-Flight Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (c-ToFAMS). Here we present a new method to continuously determine the detection limits of the AMS analyzers during regular measurements...

Challenges of laser spectrum metrology in 248 and 193-nm lithography

ABSTRACT Several approaches for high-resolution laser metrology have been discussed. One approach is to use a multiple-etalon spectrometer, which has two or more etalons with different FSRs. This approache can increase both the resolution at FWHM and the tails, as well as increase the spectrum range of the instrument. With the proper alignment, this multiple etalon configuration can produce an ...
