Side-arm grafts for femoral extracorporeal membrane oxygenation cannulation.

چکیده
Lower extremity ischemia is an important source of morbidity with femoral venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support. We describe our experience with the use of a side-arm graft sewn to the femoral artery that facilitates adequate extracorporeal membrane oxygenation flow while preventing lower extremity ischemia.

Cannulation in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation
We sincerely appreciate the studies performed about mobilization in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) patients [1]. An increasing number of studies can be seen recently in this very challenging group of patients. Mobilizing an ECMO patient is a complicated task to due to surrounding equipment and the nature of cannulations [2,3]. Regarding postoperative mobilization, the most comfortab...
متن کاملFemoral artery cannulation through a side graft in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation
Femoral vessels are the most used peripheral vessels for veno-arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) support in adults and older children. They are easily harvested and are associated with a low incidence of neurological events. In order to reduce bleeding and infection, the percutaneous technique is usually preferred to the open technique. Nevertheless this is associated to possib...
متن کاملSubclavian artery cannulation for venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.
Femoral artery cannulation for venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) can be associated with ischemic and neurologic complications. The subclavian artery offers an alternative cannulation site, which is helpful in patients with peripheral vascular disease, in those who have sustained pelvic trauma, or when ambulation is anticipated. This is a single-institution review of 20 adu...
متن کاملExtracorporeal membrane oxygenation as emergency treatment for life-threatening acute severe asthma.
We report a case of acute severe asthma that was resistant to full medical treatment, mechanical ventilation and halothane inhalation. Because a fatal outcome appeared likely extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, involving partial cardiac bypass, using femoral artery and femoral vein cannulation was instituted as an urgent measure. The patient then made a satisfactory recovery.
متن کاملDouble Peripheral Venous and Arterial Cannulation for Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation in Combined Septic and Cardiogenic Shock
BACKGROUND The use of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (va-ECMO) via peripheral cannulation for septic shock is limited by blood flow and increased afterload for the left ventricle. CASE REPORT A 15-year-old girl with acute myelogenous leukemia, suffering from severe septic and cardiogenic shock, was treated by venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (va-ECMO). Sufficie...
