Excessive secretion of antidiuretic hormone in infections with respiratory syncytial virus.
The association between infections with respiratory syncytial virus and plasma concentrations of antidiuretic hormone was assessed in 48 patients who had been admitted to hospital. The mean (SEM) concentration of antidiuretic hormone was significantly raised in patients with bronchiolitis (9.3 (1.4) ng/l) compared with non-pulmonary respiratory syncytial virus infections that cause apnoea or up...

متن کاملType D Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone Secretion in a Schizophrenia Patient with Polydipsia
A 55-year-old man with schizophrenia developed water intoxication due to primary polydipsia. His manner of antidiuretic hormone secretion was investigated by water loading and infusion of hypertonic saline to clarify the form of the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion. The plasma antidiuretic hormone level, which may be involved in the occurrence of water intoxication, was ...
متن کاملSyndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion related to Guillain-Barré syndrome after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Guillain-Barré Syndrome is one of the most common causes of acute polyneuropathy in adults. Recently, the occurrence of Guillain-Barré Syndrome after major and minor surgical operations has been increasingly debated. Introduction It has been suggested that the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion might occur in Wernicke's encephalopathy (Shalhoub and Antoniou, 1969; Ebels, 1978; Leading Article, 1979). However, the authors are unaware of published evidence for this although Ebels mentions he has such evidence in a patient. A case is reported in which reversal of the syndrome of inappropr...
