چکیده
Abstract. Starting from an exact counting of small and positive cosmological constant states in the Bousso-Polchinski Landscape we recover a well-known approximate formula and a systematic method of improvement by means of the Poisson summation formula. This is a contribution to the special Volume published by the University of Zaragoza in honor of Julio Abad Antoñanzas. En memoria de nuestro amigo, compañero y maestro Julio.

Volume Weighted Measures of Eternal Inflation in the Bousso-Polchinski Landscape
We consider the cosmological dynamics associated with volume weighted measures of eternal inflation, in the Bousso-Polchinski model of the string theory landscape. We find that this measure predicts that observers are most likely to find themselves in low energy vacua with one flux considerably larger than the rest. Furthermore, it allows for a satisfactory anthropic explanation of the cosmolog...
متن کاملWhere in the String Landscape is Quintessence
We argue that quintessence may reside in certain corners of the string landscape. It arises as a linear combination of internal space components of higher rank forms, which are axion-like at low energies, and may mix with 4-forms after compactification of the Chern-Simons terms to 4D due to internal space fluxes. The mixing induces an effective mass term, with an action which preserves the axio...
متن کاملQuantization of Four-form Fluxes and Dynamical Neutralization of the Cosmological Constant
A four-form gauge flux makes a variable contribution to the cosmological constant. This has often been assumed to take continuous values, but we argue that it has a generalized Dirac quantization condition. For a single flux the steps are much larger than the observational limit, but we show that with multiple fluxes the allowed values can form a sufficiently dense ‘discretuum’. Multiple fluxes...
متن کاملCounter-intuition and Scalar Masses
The Bousso-Polchinski mechanism for discretely fine-tuning the cosmological constant favors a large bare negative cosmological constant. I argue (using generalizations of results of Klebanov and Tseytlin) that a similar mechanism for fine-tuning the scalar masses to small values favors a large bare negative (i.e. tachyonic) scalar mass. I comment briefly on the related issue of the role of low ...
متن کاملAsymptotic states of the bounce geometry
We consider the question of asymptotic observables in cosmology. We assume that string theory contains a landscape of vacua, and that metastable de Sitter regions can decay to zero cosmological constant by bubble nucleation. The asymptotic properties of the corresponding bounce solution should be incorporated in a nonperturbative quantum theory of cosmology. A recent proposal for such a framewo...
