Citric-acid Induced Loss of Rigidity in Potato Tuber Slices.

and petiole, the interveinal tissue did not reach tritium equality with major veins, the stem, or the external solution. Water of the interveinal tissue maintained a stable tritium content at 60 to 70 % of external concentration for long periods. The pattern of results obtained was similar in sunflower and tobacco. Tritium content of leaf-tissue water vapor transpired by the canopy of an intact sunflower plant raised from seed in THO and treated with a stream of dry air inside a closed chamber increased over a 12-hour period. At the end of this period, interveinal tissue water and transpired vapor reaclhedl at least 95 % of the external tritium concentration about the roots. It

Relative Contribution of Cytochrome - mediated and Cyanide - resistant Electron Transport in Fresh and Aged Potato Slices 1
The respiration of fresh potato ( Solanum tuberosum, var. Russet Burbank) slices is predominantly cyanide-sensitive whether in the presence or absence of uncoupler. By contrast, the wound-induced respiration which develops in thin slices with aging is cyanide-resistant, and in the presence of cyanide, sensitive to chlorobenzhydroxamic acid, a selective inhibitor of the cyanide-resistant respira...
متن کاملStructure, gas chromatographic measurement, and function of suberin synthesized by potato tuber tissue slices.
The polymeric material (suberin) of the wound periderm of potato tuber slices was analyzed after depolymerization with LiAIH(4) in tetrahydrofuran or BF(3) in methanol with the use of thin layer chromatography, chemical modification, and combined gas-liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Fatty acids (C(16) to C(26)), fatty alcohols (C(16) to C(26)), octadec-9-ene-1, 18-dioic acid, and 18...
متن کاملTurnover Rates of Phosphate Esters in Fresh and Aged Slices of Potato Tuber Tissue.
In recent years, a number of studies have been miadle on the respiration of slices of potato tuber tissue (1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17). \VXhen the slices or dlisks are freshly cut, they have a respiration rate sinmilar to that of the intact tuber. This tissue lhas been termed fresh tissue. \Vhen the fresh disks are kept by aerating them in distilled water or 10-4 Al CaSO4 at 00, the low ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Using Some Treatments on Reduction of Acrylamide Formation in Processed Potatoes
Reduction of acrylamide formation in potato chips was investigated in relation to ten pretreatments before frying. Potato slices were fried at 170 C for 5 min. Prior to frying, potato slices were soaked in one of the following solutions for 60min : (1) tap water ; (2-4) NaCl solutions (1%, 2% and 3%); (5-7) citric acid solutions (0.5 %, 1 % and 2%); (8) combined solution (NaCl 3% +0.5% citric a...
متن کاملPotato yield and tuber quality as affected by gibberellic acid and zinc sulfate
Abstract Obtaining high potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tuber yield through increased number and weight of quality tubers is important for farmers while the quality factors are of interest for food processing industries. Potato processing industries require high quality tubers having the highest possible dry matter, starch and protein contents. A two-year field study was carried out as a factoria...
