Two approaches to GIVE: dynamic level adaptation versus playfulness
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper we introduce two NLG systems that we developed for the GIVE challenge. One system focuses on generating optimally helpful instructions while the other focuses on entertainment. We used the data gathered in the Challenge to compare the efficiency and entertainment value of both systems. We were unable to prove that one system was more entertaining than the other. Furthermore, we discuss remarkable results and give some suggestions for future editions of the

Evaluating the Success of the Visual Learners in Vocabulary Learning through Word List versus Sentence Making Approaches
Thisstudy sought to evaluate the learners' achievements with the visual learning style when exposed to the sentence making and word list approaches. On that account, 45 basic level participants who studied at the Iran Language Institute (ILI), Bushehr, took part in this research study. At the outset, the learners were given Barsch learning style inventory (1991) to determine the learners' learn...
متن کاملAn Initial Cross-Cultural Comparison of Adult Playfulness in Mainland China and German-Speaking Countries
Compared with playfulness in infants and children, playfulness in adults is relatively under-studied. Although there is no empirical research comparing differences in adult playfulness across cultures, one might expect variations between Western and Eastern societies such as China. While playfulness is typically seen as a positive trait in Western culture, there are hints in Chinese culture tha...
متن کاملRun-time Software Architectural Models for Adaptation, Recovery and Evolution
This paper describes approaches for dynamic software adaptation using runtime models of the software architecture. Software adaptation patterns consist of interaction models and state machine models that are used during dynamic software adaptation. Software adaptation and recovery concerns are off-loaded from components by incorporating them into connectors, which are responsible for dynamicall...
متن کاملApplying mean shift and motion detection approaches to hand tracking in sign language
Hand gesture recognition is very important to communicate in sign language. In this paper, an effective object tracking and hand gesture recognition method is proposed. This method is combination of two well-known approaches, the mean shift and the motion detection algorithm. The mean shift algorithm can track objects based on the color, then when hand passes the face occlusion happens. Several...
متن کاملComparing Experiential Approaches: Structured Language Learning Experiences versus Conversation Partners for Changing Pre-Service Teacher Beliefs
Research has shown that language teachers’ beliefs are often difficult to change through education. Experiential learning may help, but more research is needed to understand how experiential approaches shape perceptions. This study compares two approaches, conversation partners (CONV) and structured language learning experiences (SLLE), integrated into a course in language acquisition. Partici...
