Fractionation of Yeast Amino Acid-Acceptor Ribonucleic Acids by Countercurrent Distribution*?

چکیده

Considerable interest has developed in recent years in the separation of the amino acid-specific “soluble’‘-fraction ribonucleic acids because of the probable role of these RNAs in protein biosynthesis (l-5) and because the elucidation of the structures of the different amino acid-specific RNAs may lead to an understanding of the mechanism of information transfer by nucleic acids. Preliminary studies of the separation of these RNAs by countercurrent distribution have been reported (6-11). The present paper describes in detail countercurrent distribution studies of yeast amino acid-acceptor RNAs.

Fractionation of yeast amino acid-acceptor ribonucleic acids by counter-current distribution.

A simplified procedure for the preparation of tyrosine and valine-acceptor fractions of yeast "soluble ribonucleic acid".

The first steps in the biosynthesis of proteins are believed to involve the enzymatic activation of the amino acids with adenosine triphosphate (ATP) followed by the transfer of the amino acids to amino acid-specific ribonucleic acids (RNA) (for a recent review see (1)). Studies of the separation of the different amino acid-specific RNAs by countercurrent distribution have been described recent...

Studies on the Chemical Structure of Yeast Amino Acid Acceptor Ribonucleic Acids.

Elucidation of the nucleotide sequence of amino acid acceptor ribonucleic acid may reveal the structural basis of its amino acid specificity. The task appears feasible in the near future because of the low molecular weight attributed to S-RNA’ and because of the purity of the S-RNA preparations achieved so far. Purification of the alanine-, valine-, histidine-, and tyrosine-acceptor ribonucleic acids from yeast.

According to present understanding of the biosynthesis of proteins, the first steps involve activation of the ammo acids (Equation 1) followed by the transfer of the amino acids to specific amino acid-acceptor ribonucleic acids (RNA’s) (Equation 2) (for a recent review see (1)). It is believed that the amino acid-acceptor RNA’s subsequently take part, with the “template” RNA, in determining the...

Nucleotide Sequences in the Yeast Alanine Transfer Ribonucleic Acid.

The purification of the yeast alanine-, tyrosine-, and valinetransfer ribonucleic acids by countercurrent distribution has been described (l), and preliminary data have been reported on the oligonucleotide compositions of these RNAs (2, 3). The present paper summarizes results of attempts to account quantitatively for all of the fragments obtained by digestion of the alanineRNA with pancreatic ...
