Crack Initiation and Extension in Steel for Short Loading Times
نویسندگان
چکیده
The one-point bend impact test has been used to investigate crack instability conditions for short loading times (as short as 2.5 p) in high strength steel. It was found that, in the range of loading rates investigated, no time-modified fracture criterion need be invoked. The resistance to crack extension may, however, increase significantly with crack growth due to the formation of even small shear lips.

Effect of Stress Ratio and Loading Frequency on the Corrosion Fatigue Behavior of Smooth Steel Wire in Different Solutions
In this work, the effects of loading condition and corrosion solution on the corrosion fatigue behavior of smooth steel wire were discussed. The results of polarization curves and weight loss curves showed that the corrosion of steel wire in acid solution was more severe than that in neutral and alkaline solutions. With the extension of immersion time in acid solution, the cathodic reaction of ...

This paper presents a low cycle fatigue life curve by simulating a crack in a cover plate welded moment connection. Initiation of ductile fracture in steel is controlled by growth and coalescence of micro-voids. This research used a numerical method using finite element modeling and simulation of ductile crack initiation by a micromechanical model. Therefore, a finite element model of a cover p...

This paper presents a simple method based on strain energy density criterion to study the crack initiation angle by finite element method under biaxial loading condition. The crack surface relative displacement method is used to eliminate the calculation of the stress intensity factors which are normally required. The analysis is performed using higher order four node quadrilateral element. The...

In this paper, a two-dimensional computational model is proposed for predicting the initiation position and propagation path of subsurface crack of spur gear tooth flank. In order to simulate the contact of teeth, an equivalent model of two contacting cylinders is used. The problem is assumed to be under linear elastic fracture mechanic conditions and finite element method is used for numerical...
