چکیده
Case history A 20 year old professional footballer presented with pain and swelling of the left thigh after a kick three weeks previously. He had sustained a number of injuries in the past including a previous calf haematoma because of the nature of his profession but none had been as severe. Clinical examination revealed a normal gait. There was definite but diVuse swelling of the extensor compartment of the left thigh that measured 1 cm more in circumference compared with the normal right side at the level of the mid-thigh. It was tender but no discrete mass could be felt. There was also slight limitation of knee flexion but extension was full and no hip abnormality was detected. The patient was otherwise well with no constitutional symptoms. The rest of the physical examination was normal. Plain radiographs of the left thigh were obtained. What abnormality does figure 1 show? What is the diVerential diagnosis?

Endobronchial angiofibroma in the aberrant tracheal bronchus presenting as spontaneous pneumomediastinum
BACKGROUND Spontaneous pneumomediastinum is a self-limiting benign disease but abnormal bronchial lesions can be rarely found incidentally, and in selected cases will require surgical resection. MATERIALS AND METHODS A 38-year-old man presented with a spontaneous pneumomediastinum. Chest computed tomography revealed an incidental linear endobronchial tumour in the aberrant tracheal bronchus. ...
متن کاملCORRELATION BETWEEN EXPRESSION OF CLASS I ANTIGEN AND DEVELOPMENT OF TUMOUR INFILTRATING LYMPHOCYTES (TILS) FROM TUMOUR BIOPSIES OF PATIENTS WITH BLADDER CANCER
This report presents the findings of TIL development from tumour biopsies of patients with bladder cancer. Analysis of tissue sections showed the presence of T cells in intra-epithelial layer in 8 of 12 cases investigated. In a larger group of patients, TILs were established from 7 of 20 cases and expansion of these cells in Interleukin-2 (IL-2) in the presence of conditioned medium (CM) r...
متن کاملAnti-tumour necrosis factor agent and liver injury: literature review, recommendations for management.
Abnormalities in liver function tests, including transient and self-limiting hypertransaminasemia, cholestatic disease and hepatitis, can develop during treatment with anti-tumour-necrosis-factor (TNF) therapy. The optimal management of liver injury related to anti-TNF therapy is still a matter of debate. Although some authors recommend discontinuing treatment in case of both a rise of alanine ...
متن کاملModelling uveal melanoma.
BACKGROUND/AIM There has been no consistent pattern reported on how mortality for uveal melanoma varies with age. This information can be useful to model the complexity of the disease. The authors have examined ocular cancer trends, as an indirect measure for uveal melanoma mortality, to see how rates vary with age and to compare the results with their other studies on predicting metastatic dis...
متن کاملSinonasal Teratocarcinosarcoma- A Rare Tumour not so Rarely Misdiagnosed
Sinonasal teratocarcinosarcoma (STCS) is a rare, morphologically heterogeneous and highly aggressive tumour of ambiguous origin. It is characterized by the presence of benign and malignant epithelial, mesenchymal and neuroectodermal components. Because of their rarity and heterogeneity, these lesions are often misdiagnosed, leading to management difficulties. Adequate sampling with a high index...
متن کاملComparing PET metabolic parameters with clinicopathological factors in predicting onset of early recurrence in recently diagnosed hepatocellular carcinoma
Introduction: Early recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a major risk factor affecting survival even after hepatectomy. Many clinical, biochemical parameters and pathological grading like fibrosis 1 index have been used for risk stratifying HCC. However not many studies have combined all of them. It is therefore important to risk stratify HCC especially with newer PE...
