Its incidence seems to be rising because of improvements in the systemic treatment of malignant neoplasms of the hematopoietic system and of other types of cancer. To provide an objective basis for therapeutic decision-making, the authors performed a Medline search of all articles published from January 1975 to December 2005 with the following keywords: Meningeosis, Meningeosis neoplastica, Meningeosis Karzinomatosa, Meningeosis lymphomatosa, leptomeningeale Metastasen, Liquor and Liquorzytologie. All internationally published case series and case reports were analyzed, whether randomized or non-randomized.
