Gauge fluctuations in superconducting films

چکیده
In this paper we consider a type-I superconducting film modeled by the Ginzburg-Landau model, confined between two parallel planes a distance L apart from one another. Our approach is based on the Gaussian effective potential in the transverse unitarity gauge, which allows to treat gauge contributions in a compact form. Using techniques from dimensional and ζ-function regularizations, modified by the confinement conditions, we investigate the critical temperature as a function of the film thickness L. The contributions from the scalar self-interaction and from the gauge fluctuations are clearly identified. The model suggests the existence of a minimal critical thickness below which superconductivity is suppressed. A comparison with present experimental observations is done. Influence of gauge fluctuations on fermion pairing order parameter
Using a prototype model, we study the influence of gauge fluctuations on fermion pairing order parameter which has the gauge symmetry, and demonstrate that the gauge fluctuations can destroy the long range order of the fermion pairing order parameter, and make it only have short range correlation. If this parameter is a superconducting order parameter, we show that the Meissner effect of the sy...

We probe the presence of long-range correlations in phase fluctuations by analyzing the higher-order spectrum of resistance fluctuations in ultrathin NbN superconducting films. The non-Gaussian component of resistance fluctuations is found to be sensitive to film thickness close to the transition, which allows us to distinguish between mean field and Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) type s...
متن کاملGauge field fluctuations and first-order phase transition in color superconductivity.
We study the gauge field fluctuations in dense quark matter and determine the temperature of the induced first-order phase transition to the color-superconducting phase in weak coupling. We find that the local approximation of the coupling between the gauge potential and the order parameter, employed in the Ginzburg-Landau theory, has to be modified by restoring the full momentum dependence of ...

Superconducting fluctuations in long and narrow strips made from ultrathin NbN films, have been investigated. For large bias currents close to the critical current fluctuations led to localized, temporary transitions into the normal conducting state, which were detected as voltage transients developing between the strip ends. We present models based on fluctuations in the Cooper pair density an...
متن کاملEffect of thermal phase fluctuations on the superfluid density of two-dimensional superconducting films
High precision measurements of the complex sheet conductivity of superconducting a-Mo77Ge23 thin films have been made from 0.4 K through T(c). A sharp drop in the inverse sheet inductance, L-1(T), is observed at a temperature, T(c), which lies below the mean-field transition temperature T(c0). Just below T(c), the suppression of L-1(T) below its mean-field value indicates that longitudinal phas...
