Merging IEC CIM and DMTF CIM - A Step Towards an Improved Smart Grid Information Model
نویسندگان
چکیده
In the envisioned future Smart Grid, ICT will be incorporated into the power system at all domains in order to improve the operation and management. The incorporation of ICT must be systematic and incremental. One enabler of this is a well-designed and shared information model. IEC61970-301 Common Information Model (CIM) standard exists for the power system. However, it has some drawbacks that decrease the potential adoption benefits and create the barrier of adoption. We explore this standard along with the DMTF CIM standard used in network management and discusses how the principles in the DMTF CIM can be used to extend the IEC CIM in order to address the aforementioned drawbacks.

Using CIM for Smart Grid ICT integration
The eTelligence project explores and demonstrates various smart energy grid ideas by using modern ICT (information and communications technology). For this purpose, many new and heterogeneous types of smart grid systems have to be developed and integrated, such as a regional energy market, distributed energy management systems, and an advanced metering infrastructure. The future interaction sce...
متن کاملIEC CIM architecture for Smart Grid to achieve interoperability International CIM
This paper describes IEC CIM architecture and demonstrates how this architecture fits into Smart Grid architectural principles: loose coupling, shallow integration and layered approach. The CIM architecture is traced back to UN/CEFACT modeling methodology, Zachman formal architectural framework and Open-EDI model to ensure reusability and repeatability of its design solutions. It maps the CIM a...
متن کاملDMTF - CIM to OWL: A Case Study in Ontology Conversion
The process and problems associated with translating a specific software engineering ontology into a different ontology language are described. The software engineering ontology is the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) Common Information Model (CIM). The target ontology language is the W3C OWL DL language. The specific translations are described for various CIM constructs. Difficulties i...
متن کاملTowards a CIM Schema for RunTime Application Management
We describe new extensions to the Core, Application and System Schemas of the Common Information Model (CIM). While previous work on the CIM Application Schema mainly dealt with the distribution, deployment and installation aspects of software, a recent effort within the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) is targeted at defining schema extensions capable of dealing with the full lifecycle...
متن کاملTowards Semantic Service Integration for Automation in Smart Grids
Smart grids, defined by the US NIST as the modernization process from the current power grid to the power grid of the future, focusing monitoring, protection and automatic optimization along the whole energy value chain, are a focal topic within the energy domain. In terms of both integration and interoperability, standardization is a key issue. Especially between the business and field communi...
