چکیده

The case that I am about to report is that of a girl, aged *8, who was born and always lived at Chepstow. The family history was good, the two preceding generations being long lived. She was one of a family of fifteen, and had four sisters and three brothers alive and well; seven brothers died in infancy?four of scarlet fever, one from hip disease. She had always been perfectly healthy; had had no serious illness. Menstruated at 14; always regular. In *885 she had headaches occasionally, with slight feeling ?f fulness at the throat, but was otherwise in her usual

Gonadal dysgenesis with Graves's disease.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis has previously been associated with gonadal dysgenesis. Recent evidence suggests that Graves's disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis are disorders of cell-mediated immunity and may have a common genetic predisposition. However, patients with both Graves's disease and the Turner syndrome have been reported only rarely. Three such cases are presented and the relation among g...

Treatment of Graves's Disease by Anti-Thyreoid Serum and by X-Rays 1Read at a meeting of the Bristol Medico-Chirurgical Society held at Weston-super-Mare on June 12th, 1907.

It may be well, belore passing to the subject of treatment, to recall briefly the chief theories as to the nature of Graves's disease. Unfortunately the pathology of this affection is still very obscure, and the exact way in which it is produced uncertain. Undoubtedly many of the most striking symptoms are brought about through the medium of the sympathetic, but there is no evidence that the di...

Squamous cell carcinoma of the eyelid masquerading as 'malignant' ophthalmopathy of Graves's disease.

A patient with Graves's disease is described in whom the periorbital changes of severe ophthalmopathy and iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome delayed the diagnosis of a squamous cell carcinoma of the eyelid. It is suggested that the immunosuppressive therapy which the patient received may have enhanced the growth of a pre-existing malignancy.

Premature Fusion of Skull Sutures

Graves's disease is uncommon in childhood, only 5% of the total cases falling within the agegroup 0-15 years (Saxena, Crawford, and Talbot, 1964). Excluding the transient neonatal form of thyrotoxicosis, we have been able to trace only 4 cases of hyperthyroidism beginning before 2 years. The purpose of this paper is to describe a boy with Graves's disease who presented in the second year of lif...

Anterior mediastinal mass and Graves' disease.

Radiological evidence of a mass in the anterior mediastinum may provide a difficult problem in diagnosis. Disorders of the thymus, particularly thymomas, are frequently the cause of such mass lesions. Although modest thymic enlargement occurs in many patients with Graves's disease,' rarely is the enlargement great enough to lead to a clinical diagnostic dilemma.2 We report here two patients wit...

Myxoedema with enophthalmos.

IN hypothyroidism, the palpebral fissures are generally narrowed, in striking contrast to the stare of Graves's disease. This narrowing of the palpebral fissures, which is attributed to the myxoedematous swelling of the eyelids, often gives a false impression of enophthalmos. True enophthalmos (i.e. backward displacement of the eye in the orbit) may occur in myxoedema (Lemoine, 1938), but seems...
