چکیده
Objective: To detect the changes of plasma fibrinogen and antithrombin III activity in premature infants of different gestational age and those with maternal pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) or not after birth, and discuss its clinical significance. Method: 51 premature infants with gestational age of less than 34 weeks and 45 premature infants of 34-37 weeks were selected. Based on whether their mothers had PIH or not, they were divided into PIH group (50 cases) and absent PIH group (46 cases), respectively. The plasma fibrinogen and antithrombin III activity were measured within 24 hours and on day 5 after birth, respectively. Results: The plasma fibrinogen and antithrombin III activity of premature infants within 24 hours and on day 5 after birth were at lower levels. The plasma fibrinogen and antithrombin III activity among premature infants with gestational age of less than 34 weeks were lower than those among premature infants of 34-37 weeks, with significant differences. Moreover, the plasma fibrinogen and antithrombin III activity of premature infants within 24 hours and on day 5 after birth among maternal PIH group were lower than those among absent PIH group, respectively, with significant differences (P<0.05). Conclusion: Dynamic detection of plasma fibrinogen and antithrombin III activity in premature infants after birth is significant to prevent hemorrhagic syndrome of premature infants, but its diagnostic value in disseminated intravascular coagulation remains to be further investigated.

Development of the human coagulation system in the healthy premature infant.
This study was designed to determine the postnatal development of the human coagulation system in the healthy premature infant. Consecutive mothers of healthy premature infants born at either St Joseph's Hospital or McMaster University Medical Centre in Hamilton were asked for consent. One hundred thirty-seven premature infants (30 to 36 weeks of gestational age) entered the study. The prematur...
متن کاملCan the administration of antithrombin III decrease the risk of cerebral hemorrhage in premature infants?
This study was carried out to determine whether the administration of antithrombin III decreases the risk of intraventricular hemorrhage in premature infants. In a randomized study, 60 infants born before 30 weeks of gestation were assigned to receive a loading dose of antithrombin III or placebo. There was no significant difference in the incidence of intraventricular hemorrhage between the an...
متن کاملUpdate on antithrombin I (fibrin).
Antithrombin I (fibrin) is an important inhibitor of thrombin generation that functions by sequestering thrombin in the forming fibrin clot, and also by reducing the catalytic activity of fibrinbound thrombin. Thrombin binding to fibrin takes place at two classes of non-substrate sites: 1) in the fibrin E domain (two per molecule) through interaction with thrombin exosite 1; 2) at a single site...
متن کاملEffect of dextran sulphates on thrombin activity.
To clarify the action of dextran sulphate, a heparin analogue, in the clotting of fibrinogen by thrombin, determinations were carried out on the clotting activity, the release of fibrinopeptides from fibrinogen, and the hydrolytic activity of thrombin against a peptide chromogenic substrate in the absence or presence of antithrombin III (heparin cofactor). It was shown that dextran sulphate its...
متن کاملFibrinogen inhibits the heparin cofactor II-mediated antithrombin activity of dermatan sulfate.
Dermatan sulfate is a naturally occurring antithrombotic glycosaminoglycan. The antithrombin activity of several dermatan sulfate preparations has been measured in whole human plasma and found to be -55% of that in purified systems. Kinetic studies under pseudo-first-order conditions indicated that the reduction in antithrombin activity of dermatan sulfate in plasma compared with that in buffer...
