چکیده

In addition to the many industrial robots that support our daily lives, there are numerous fictional robots that have appeared in movies, comics, and video games. Many of us would be interested in understanding the experience of having a tough iron body, and perhaps even wish that we could become like these robotic heroes, if only for a short time. The question naturally arises: What would it feel like to be a robot? While we are seldom conscious of the activities of our biological muscles or tendons, a roAbstract The worlds envisioned in science fiction frequently involve robotic heroes composed of metallic parts. Although these characters exist only in the realm of fantasy, many of us would be interested in becoming them, or becoming like them. Therefore, we developed a virtual robotization system that provides a robot-like feeling to the human body, not only by using a visual display and sound effects, but also by transmitting a robot’s haptic vibration to the user’s arm. The vibrotactile stimulus was recorded using the actuation of a real robot and modeled using linear predictive coding. We experimentally confirmed that the subjective robot-like feeling was significantly increased by combining the robot-vibration feedback with a robot-joint animation and creaking sound effects.

Vibrotactile Haptic Feedback for Advanced Prostheses

The ultimate goal of any prosthetic device is to emulate the form and function of the physiology that it is replacing. Amputees who use upper-limb myoelectric prostheses are severely limited in the haptic feedback they receive from their limbs. If sensory feedback were transmitted through a haptic feedback display, it could lead to improvements in prosthetic control and object manipulation. Vib...

Comparing the Exteroceptive Feedback of Normal Stress, Skin Stretch, and Vibrotactile Stimulation for Restitution of Static Events

This paper investigates the effectiveness of three types of haptic feedback: normal stress, tangential force, and vibrotactile stimulation. Modern prosthetic limbs currently available on the market do not provide a wide range of sensory information to amputees, forcing amputees to mainly rely on visual attention when manipulating objects. We aim to develop a haptic system that can convey inform...

Using haptic feedback to enhance computer interaction for motion-impaired users

For users with motion impairments, the standard keyboard and mouse arrangement for computer access often presents problems. Other approaches have to be adopted to overcome this. There is evidence to suggest that increasing the degrees-of-freedom, and hence bandwidth, of humancomputer interaction (HCI), can improve interaction rates if implemented carefully. Haptic feedback is not really exploit...

Mood Glove: A haptic wearable prototype system to enhance mood music in film

This is an exploratory work aimed at enhancing mood music in film entertainment. We present the design and implementation of a haptic wearable prototype system which aims to amplify mood music in film through haptic sensations (vibrotactile feedback). This approach also could potentially have implications for hearing-impaired audiences, providing a new enriched emotional experience while watchi...
