The enzymatic reduction of hydroxypyruvic acid to D-glyceric acid in higher plants.

چکیده
Meister (1) has reported that the rate of reduction of hydroxypyruvate by reduced diphosphopyridine nucleotide (DPNH) in the presence of muscle lactic dehydrogenase is as rapid as the rate of reduction of pyruvate. The present paper reports evidence for the existence in higher plants of a new pyridine nucleotide dehydrogenase which catalyzes the reduction of hydroxypyruvate, but not of pyruvate. The product of this reaction has been identified as n-glyceric acid. The reaction, shown in Equation 1, is reversible, and the enzyme may therefore be called n-glyceric dehydrogenase. This enzyme does not act with lactic acid, and is consequently quite distinct from lactic dehydrogenase.

Biochemical contribution to diagnosis and study of a new case of D-glyceric acidemia/aciduria.
During organic acid screening by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, we detected a large peak corresponding to glyceric acid in a patient's urine sample. The D(+) configuration was demonstrated by a polarimetric method and by enzymatic stereospecificity of D-glycerate dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.29). We biochemically investigated this fifth reported case of D-glyceric acidemia. In our patient, lo...
متن کاملMetabolism of pyruvic acid-2-C14 and hydroxypyruvic acid-2-C14 in algae.
The metabolism of pyruvic acid in the light and dark by Scenedesmus has been examined with two aims: to study the relationship of its metabolism to that of the intermediates of C1402 fixation and to compare its metabolic fate with that of hydroxypyruvate. The metabolism of hydroxypyruvic acid was compared with that of C1402 fixation in order to ascertain whether it might be a photosynthetic int...
متن کاملAlleviation of oxidative stress induced by drought stress through priming by β-aminobutyric acid (BABA) in Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) plants. Neda Mohamadi1,2, Amin Baghizadeh3*, Sara Saadatmand1, Zahra Asrar4
The objective of this study was to investigate the role of β-aminobutyric acid(BABA) (0, 300µM) in reduction of oxidative damages in leaves and roots of Brassica napus L. under drought stress (0, -0.2, -0.4 MPa). β-aminobutyric acid was investigated as an internal regulator hormone and its role in defense mechanisms against biotic and abioticstresses. In this study, BABA pretreatment prevented...
متن کاملA Developmental Study of D-Glyceric Acid Dehydrogenase.
Since the mere presence of an enzyme in a tissue does not establish a physiological role, further data are needed in order to elucidate the possible metabolic function of this enzyme. As an aid in obtaining such information, the developmental pattern of this dehydrogenase was studied. The previous investigation (13) had shown that although D-glyceric acid dehydrogenase is widely distributed in ...
متن کاملEffects of Some Amino Acids and Organic Acids on Enzymatic Activity and Longevity of Dianthus caryophyllus cv. Tessino at Pre-Harvest Stage
Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L.) is one of the most important cut flowers in the world. This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of pre-harvest application of some amino acids and organic acids on enzymatic traits and longevity of carnation flowers (Dianthus caryophyllus cv. Tessino) based on completely randomized design with 13 treatments and three...
