The "goose neck" of the endocardial cushion defect: anatomic basis.

چکیده
The "goose necku deformity as seen in left ventriculogrruas in the endocardial cushion defect persists after surgical treatment in whkh the subaodc deficiency of the venMcular septum is built up with prosthetic material and the natural mitral valve is replaced by a prosthesis. Anatomic studies indicate that the diaphragmatic (inflow) aspect of the left ventricle and the venMcuhu septum are short relative to the outflow length of the ventricular septum. In addition, there is a deficiency in the subaortic aspect of the ventricular septum. The study suggests that the term "goose neckn deformity fobwing cometion of the deficiency of the ventricular septum appears to be related to the short nature of the inflow part of the left ventricular wall at its diaphragmatic aspect. The study suggests that the term "goose neckn deformity is better replaced by ''goose" deformity, since the deficient posterior wall of the left ventricle outlines the curvature of the back of the "goosen which persists in spite of correction at operation.

Subxiphoid cross-sectional echocardiographic imaging of the "goose-neck" deformity in endocardial cushion defect.
The cross-sectional echocardiographic demonstration of the "goose-neck" deformity is described in four patients with endocardial cushion defect. The diagnosis was confirmed in each patient by left ventricular angiocardiogram. The subxiphoid approach of cross-sectional echocardiography in diastole allowed visualization of an elongated, narrowed, and somewhat horizontally inclined configuration o...

A clinicopathological analysis was made of I3 cases in which the anatomical characteristics of tetralogy of Fallot were associated either with the classicalfeatures of the complete type of persistent common atrioventricular canal (8 cases) or with a forme fruste of the latter (5 cases); that is, cleft tricuspid valve (4 cases) and isolated ostium primum (one). The ratio offemale to male was IO ...

Conduction time from the region of the sinus node to the region of the atrioventricular (A-V) node was studied during open heart surgery in 13 patients with an endocardial cushion type atrial septal defect, eight patients with a secundum type atrial septal defect, one patient with a sinus venosus type atrial septal defect, and eight patients with an intact atrial septum. Internodal conduction t...
