Induced electromotive forces

چکیده
Theoretical investigations into the stability of electrified liquid drops take as their starting point a result due to Rayleigh. It was felt that this result is important enough to warrant a more complete derivation than that originally given by Rayleigh in the reference which is usually quoted. A literature search revealed a second paper of Rayleigh’s which is never quoted, but which contains important steps, not given elsewhere, towards his original calculation. Even when both papers are taken together, however, the calculation still seems incomplete. For this reason the entire calculation is presented using a modern formalism which in particular recognises the effects of electrostriction. To complement this the complete calculation as originally conceived by Rayleigh is presented in an appendix. Initial investigations into the behaviour of electrified liquid drops were conducted by Lord Rayleigh towards the end of the 19th century. In 1879 he showed (Rayleigh 1879) that the angular frequency W of an oscillating but unelectrified spherical mass of liquid of density p and radius a is given by W ’ = n ( n I)(n + 2 ) u p a 3 , (1) where T is the surface tension. In this analysis Rayleigh obtained expressions for the potential and kinetic energies of the liquid drop which he substituted into Lagrange’s equations of motion to obtain (1). His calculations are given completely in appendix I1 of Rayleigh (1879). They are also reproduced in v01 I1 of his book Theory of Sound. 0143-0807/80/030143+04$01.50 The Institute of Physics

An Experimental Study of the Electromotive Forces of the Heart.
P rogress in understanding the relationship between differences in potential measured in a lead and the electromotive forces of the heart has been closely related to the improved understanding of the nature of these forces and the development of the concepts of the lead vector’ and lead field.2 The latter concepts permit us to explain how the electromotive forces of the heart produce voltage in...

The authors suggest the generalized method of induced electromotive forces (EMF) for the investigation of the characteristics of single and systems of thin impedance vibrators at their arbitrary excitation and distribution of the surface impedance on the ground of the made analysis in the proposed paper. The distinctive peculiarity of this method is the use of the functional distributions, obta...

Septal necrosis + peripheral left blocks. Because of an extensive septal necrosis, the manifestation of the initial ventricular activation forces decreases in the precordial leads. With left bifascicular block (LASB + LPSB), the first ventricular activation forces become more evident and the electrical signs of septal necrosis can be concealed. In the presence of a trifascicular block, manifest...
متن کاملExternal control of dissipation in a nanometer-scale radiofrequency mechanical resonator
We demonstrate a technique by which the quality factor of a magnetically-actuated mechanical resonator is controlled by an external electrical circuit. Modulation of this parameter is achieved by local variation of the electrical impedance presented to the resonator at its resonance frequency. We describe a theory that explains this result as arising from eddy currents in the external electrica...

IN the first paper of this series' it was shown that the relationship between the electromotive forces of the heart and the voltages produced by them in a given lead are completely determined by the electric field set up in the heart when a unit current is introduced into the lead. This means that to analyze the relationship between the electromotive forces and the lead voltage it is only neces...
