Re-optimization of the Final Focus System Optics with Vertical Chromaticity Correction*

چکیده
The purpose of the final focus system (FFS) of the future linear colliders (ILC and CLIC) is to demagnify the beam to the required size at the interaction point (IP). This can be done in a compact way based on a local chromaticity correction [1]. For an enlarged horizontal beta function at the IP βx*, chromaticity on horizontal plane will be smaller. We get a smaller vertical beam size, at the expense of a larger horizontal beam size, with chromaticity correction mainly in the vertical plane using fewer sextupoles: 2 or 3 instead of 5. For a new FFS design with this scheme, we’ll also not need the first peak of β, which will reduce overall vertical chromaticity. This can lead to a shorter and easier to tune FFS. Another benefit is that the beamstrahlung at the IP will be reduced.

A Final Focus System for Flat-Beam Linear Colliders*
A final focus system is designed for a flat-beam linear collider with the parameters suggested by R. B. Palmer. A method of chromaticity correction which uses one family of sextupole is realized so as to correct both horizontal and vertical chromaticities simultaneously. A computer code has been written to find the solution, and a result with a momentum acceptance twice that of Palmer’s require...
متن کاملBeam Based Alignment of the SLC Final Focus Sextupoles*
The strong demagnification inherent in final focus systems requires local cancellation of the resulting chromaticity. Strong sextupole pairs separated by a -I transform are positioned x12 in betatron phase away from the Interaction Point (IP) in order to cancel chromatic aberrations primarily due to the final quadrupoles. Sextupole alignment is critical in order to provide orthogonal tuning of ...
متن کاملFINAL-FOCUS OPTICS FOR THE LHeC ELECTRON BEAM LINE∗
One of the options considered for the ECFA-CERNNuPECC design study for a Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC) [1] based on the LHC is adding a recirculating energy-recovery linac tangential to the LHC. First designs of the electron Final Focus System have shown the need to correct the chromatic aberrations. Two designs using different approaches for the chromaticity correction are compared, na...

Using a new extraction line currently under construction, the ATF2 experiment plans to test the novel compact final focus optics design with local chromaticity correction intended for use in future linear colliders. With a 1.3 GeV design beam of 30nm normalised vertical emittance extracted from the ATF damping ring, the primary goal is to achieve a vertical spot-size at the IP waist of 37nm. We...
متن کاملThird-order Corrections to the SLC Final Focus
The minimum p achievable at the interaction point @*> with the current design of the SLC final focus is limited to -5 mm by third order optical aberrations, most notably the Utzti and W3466 terms (using the notation of K. Brown). A new lattice is presented which effectively zeros these terms. The remaining third order terms which accrue from the interleaved sextupole pairs in the chromatic corr...
