چکیده

Worldwide importance of tick born diseases (TBDs) in dogs has been accepted due to its high morbidity and mortality. The disease gets transmitted by the brown dog tick, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, which acts as a vector of several agents such as Anaplasma platys, Babesia canis vogeli, Babesia gibsoni, Ehrlichia canis (E. canis), spotted fever group Rickettsia spp. and Hpatozoone canis (H. canis) [1-3]. Interactions among these various parasitic agents unquestionably affect the organisms individually and alter their effects on the host. Concomitant tick borne infections are very common in endemic areas[4,5], but clinical reports are scarce[6-9]. Clinical findings ranged from incidental hematological changes to severe life-threatening illness due to synergistic pathological effects between the etiological PEER REVIEW ABSTRACT

Naturally occurring ehrlichiosis in Egyptian dogs

Canine ehrlichiosis has emerged as one of the most clinically important tick-borne diseases affecting dogs. Eighty-five naturally infected dogs have been investigated, the most consistent clinical signs recorded were fever, emaciation and lymphoadenopathy, anemia, monocytosis, thrompocytopenia, hypoalbuminemia, elevation in liver enzymes and total bilirubin were the most remarkable changes asso...

Molecular Evidences of Ehrlichiosis as an Emerging Zoonotic Disease in Kerman City

Background and Aims: Ehrlichiosis is an emerging tick-borne zoonotic disease caused by the gramnegative coccid obligate intracellular bacteria of the family Anaplasmataceae. Since the only available evidence in regard to monocytic Ehrlichiosis in Iran is related to dogs, the present study was designed to use the polymerase chain reaction assay for confirming the presence of Ehrlichia spp. in...

A review on Anaplasma phagocytophilum as a zoonotic agent: review article

Anaplasma phagocytophilum is a gram-negative intracellular bacterium that transmitted by hard ticks. A. phagocytophilum infect and multiply in the organs of ticks, in particular the salivary glands which enable the transmission to vertebrate hosts during feeding. The tick becomes infected by feeding on an infected host and there is transstadial but not transovarial passage of the organism. The ...

Incidence of Cercopithifilaria bainae in Dogs and Probability of Co-Infection with Other Tick-Borne Pathogens

BACKGROUND Cercopithifilaria bainae is a filarioid parasite that infects dogs, being transmitted by Rhipicephalus sanguineus group ticks in many countries of the Mediterranean basin. This study assessed the incidence density rate (IDR) of infection by C. bainae in dogs and the probability of co-infection with other tick-borne pathogens (i.e., Anaplasma platys, Babesia vogeli and Hepatozoon cani...

Molecular Detection of Anaplasma Phagocytophilum as a Zoonotic Agent in Owned and Stray Dogs in Tehran, Iran

The genus Anaplasma is an obligated intracellular Rickettsia and among its species, Anaplasma phagocytophilum (A. phagocytophilum) is a zoonotic agent that infects host neutrophils. The aim of this study was molecular detection of A. phagocytophilum infection based on MSP4 gene in owned and stray dogs in Tehran, capital of Iran. One hundred and fifty blood sampl...
