چکیده
BACKGROUND ABO blood type incompatibility between a donor and recipient is generally considered a contraindication to kidney transplantation. CASE CHARACTERISTICS A 12-year-old boy presented with end stage renal disease (blood group B), with the only healthy available donor being mother (blood group AB). The child received renal transplant with mother as the donor, with a designed desensitization and immunosuppressive protocol. OBSERVATION At 6 months, child is doing well, with stable graft function. MESSAGE ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation is a valid alternative for children with end stage renal disease. This is the first report from India of a Pediatric ABO incompatible renal transplant.

Role of Plasma Exchange in ABO-incompatible Kidney Transplantation
BACKGROUND In the past, ABO incompatibility was an absolute contraindication for solid organ transplantation. However, multiple recent trials have suggested strategies for overcoming the reactions between graft antigens and recipient antibodies that cause graft rejection. In this study, we determined the usefulness of plasma exchange (PE) for removing anti-A/B antibodies that cause hyperacute/a...

On April 23, 1951, a 30-year-old woman received the first intentional ABOi (ABO incompatible) renal transplantation in Boston. At that time, it was commonly believed that intensely rinsing the graft to remove blood would be sufficient to overcome any immunological problems associated with blood type incompatibility. However, when the abovementioned patient and another ABOi transplant recipient ...
متن کاملABO-Incompatible Kidney Transplantation: Past, Present and Future
Kidney transplantation (KTx) is the treatment of choice for end-stage renal disease [1]. Compared with dialysis it confers a survival advantage, enhances quality of life and is more cost-effective. There are two types of potential donors in renal transplants: deceased and living donors. Transplantation from living donors provides better survival rates in comparison to those from deceased ones [...

PURPOSE Additional clinical experience and knowledge regarding the barrier to transplantation of ABO blood type incompatibility could reduce the higher rate of infectious complications in ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation. METHODS A total of 79 ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation (ABOiKT) patients were compared with 260 ABO-compatible kidney transplantation (ABOcKT) patients for bas...
متن کاملABO-Incompatible Kidney Transplantation: Overview and New Strategies
The increasing shortage of human organs for transplantation has regained interest in blood group ABO-incompatible kidney transplantation, especially living donor kidney transplantation. After being performed at a few centers during the 1980s, ABO-incompatible renal transplantation has continued to expand over the years. More than 1000 ABO-incompatible living donor transplantations have been per...
