Alterations in the Serum Lipid Profile in Patients with Oral Cancer, Oral Precancerous Lesions/Conditions associated with the Habit of Tobacco Consumption
نویسنده
چکیده
The changes in lipid profile have long been associated with cancer because lipids play a key role in maintenance of cell integrity. Lipids are the major cell membrane components essential for various biological functions including cell growth and division of normal and malignant tissues. Lower blood lipids have been associated with the etiology of breast and colorectal cancer, and relation has also been reported between low cholesterol and increased risk of cancer occurrence and mortality. The present study was designed to evaluate the serum lipid profile in patients with oral precancerous lesion/condition and squamous cell carcinoma to see whether there are any alterations in the lipid levels during the pathogenesis of these lesions and also to evaluate significance of lipid profile as biochemical marker, if any.

Alterations in serum lipid profile patterns in oral cancer
BACKGROUND Alterations in serum lipids have long been associated with cancer as lipids play an important role in maintenance of cell integrity. AIMS To evaluate alterations in plasma lipid profile in oral cancer patients, to compare and correlate the serum lipid profile in different grades of carcinoma and to evaluate the correlation of serum lipid profile between the tobacco habituates and n...

Background and Objective: Alleviation of serum glucose level and lipid profile in diabetic patients using herbal medications is of great importance. In the present study, the effect of oral consumption of olive leaves on serum glucose level and lipid profile was investigated. Materials and Methods: Male Wistar rats were divided into four groups including control, control under treatment, diabet...

AIM Altered lipid profile patterns have been associated with malignancies because lipids play a pivotal role in the maintenance of cell integrity. The present study evaluated alterations in serum lipid profile in oral squamous cell carcinoma patients as well as its association with the habit of tobacco consumption. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study included 30 oral squamous cell carcinoma patie...
متن کاملSerum lipid profile in patients with oral cancer and oral precancerous conditions
BACKGROUND The present study was undertaken to estimate and compare the levels of plasma total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein (LDL), high density lipoprotein (HDL), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and triglycerides in patients with oral precancerous lesions/conditions, oral cancer and normal subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study comprised of 60 patients with oral precancero...
متن کاملSerum Lipid Profile In Patients With Oral Tobacco Habits and Oral Precancer Lesions and Conditions
Background & Objectives:. Tobacco carcinogens induce generation of free radicals and reactive oxygen species, which cause lipid peroxidation. Because of the lipid peroxidation, there is a greater utilization of lipids for new membrane biogenesis. Hence the present study was carried out to determine the variations, if any, in the serum lipid profile of subjects with tobacco habit and patients wi...
