What a reviewer wants.

چکیده
Understanding what a reviewer wants helps authors write better papers and design better research studies. Central to any research study is the research question. This is the first thing the reviewer looks for. The question, or research aim, should be relevant, original and very clearly defined. The paper should also be scientifically valid; the methods should achieve the aim by addressing the question, and the conclusions should match the results. The statistical analysis often attracts criticism, especially the relatively simple problems arising with the use of P-values and the concepts of statistical and clinical significance. There are several agreed guidelines describing exactly how studies should be reported. Following these is a great help to reviewers.

Delayed decisions—how long is too long?
Despite being in publishing for the best part of two decades there is one thing I cannot adequately explain. Why is it that when a journal wants something from an author, the journal gives a deadline of barely a week but when an author wants something from a journal he can seemingly wait for ever? متن کاملReviewing a reviewer.
We are all authors, but at the same time we are all reviewers. We write articles, anticipate that they will be reviewed quickly and favorably and hope that they will be accepted. We write reviews and anticipate that our recommendations will be honored and our concerns will be addressed. The work of authors is visible and rewarding (if published), the work of reviewers is anonymous and not that ...
متن کاملFrom the Editors: Taking the Mystery out of Amj’s Reviewer Evaluation Form
One of the inspirations for this “From the Editors” column occurred at an Academy doctoral consortium a few years ago. A fourth-year Ph.D. student asked a common question: “How do I know what journals are looking for in my manuscripts?” Although a number of responses are possible, to be sure, the reply came, “Look at their reviewer evaluation form—that’s a good place to start.” It was clear fro...
