چکیده

Polarized ferrofluids, lipid monolayers and magnetic bubbles form domains with deformable boundaries. Stability analysis of these domains depends on a family of nontrivial integrals. We present a closed form evaluation of these integrals as a combination of Legendre functions. This result allows exact and explicit formulae for stability thresholds and growth rates of individual modes. We also evaluate asymptotic behavior in several interesting limits. PACS numbers: 75.50.Mm, 75.70.Kw, 68.18.+p, 02.30.Gp Stability analysis predicts the evolution of cylindrical polarized domains in many systems, including magnetic bubbles [1], ferrofluid labyrinths [2, 3] and amphiphilic Langmuir monolayers [4, 5]. In all these contexts the same family of nontrivial integrals arises. We evaluate these integrals in closed form in terms of Legendre functions. Our closed form solution allows explicit analytic expressions for stability thresholds and individual mode growth and decay rates. We also present asymptotic behavior of the integrals in interesting limits such as large aspect ratio, or high spatial frequency. Let us briefly describe one particular physical system. Consider an initially circular (radius R) droplet of ferrofluid [6] trapped between two parallel glass plates, separated by a distance h. A convenient measure of the droplet shape is given by the aspect ratio p = 2R h . (1) Apply a uniform magnetic field perpendicular to the plates. Varying the magnetic field alters the balance between magnetic interactions and surface forces. We measure the relative strength of magnetic and surface forces

Determination of Stability Domains for Nonlinear Dynamical Systems Using the Weighted Residuals Method

Finding a suitable estimation of stability domain around stable equilibrium points is an important issue in the study of nonlinear dynamical systems. This paper intends to apply a set of analytical-numerical methods to estimate the region of attraction for autonomous nonlinear systems. In mechanical and structural engineering, autonomous systems could be found in large deformation problems or c...

stability of the quadratic functional equation

In the present paper a solution of the generalizedquadratic functional equation$$f(kx+ y)+f(kx+sigma(y))=2k^{2}f(x)+2f(y),phantom{+} x,yin{E}$$ isgiven where $sigma$ is an involution of the normed space $E$ and$k$ is a fixed positive integer. Furthermore we investigate theHyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of the functional equation. TheHyers-Ulam stability on unbounded domains is also studied.Applic...

PH-domain-dependent selective transport of p75 by kinesin-3 family motors in non-polarized MDCK cells.

A key process during epithelial polarization involves establishment of polarized transport routes from the Golgi to distinct apical and basolateral membrane domains. To do this, the machinery involved in selective trafficking must be regulated during differentiation. Our previous studies showed that KIF5B selectively transports vesicles containing p75-neurotrophin receptors to the apical membra...

Effects of Nonlinearities on the Steady State Dynamic Behavior of Electric Actuated Microcantilever-based Resonators

This paper presents the dynamic behavior of microcantilever-based microresonators and compares their steady state behavior for polarized and nonpolarized systems at different levels of nonlinearities. A microcantilever, equipped with a time-varying capacitor, makes the microresonator system. The capacitor is activated by a constant polarization voltage, and an alternative actuating voltage. The...
